A huge thank you to the CT & RI Farming Institute for the wonderful opportunity to present yesterday to the grower communities of Connecticut and Rhode Island! 🧑‍🌾🌱

We spent the time diving into Accessible & Inclusive Farm Design. My mission is to show that accessibility isn't just a "nice to have"—it is essential for a thriving agricultural community.

We discussed how inclusive design supports:

✅ Farm Owners: Helping those with physical limitations or aging bodies stay on their land longer.

✅ Diverse Staff: Creating a space where every team member can be a valuable, productive contributor regardless of their physical or mental health needs.

✅ New Markets: Opening our gates to an often "invisible" community—those who use mobility equipment, the homebound, and individuals with differing sensory needs.

🌱 Old Saybrook High School is growing the leaders of tomorrow! 🌱

I’m still buzzing from the incredible energy yesterday at Old Saybrook High School!

I want to extend a huge thank you to the school for having me, and a special shout-out to Lindsay, the amazing teacher who helped make this visit possible. It was a joy to present to such an engaged crowd of students and adults!

The interest in our HBG AgriYouth Certification program was massive. We took a deep dive into how no space is too small to make a difference, but more importantly, we discussed accessible growing spaces. Ensuring that gardening is inclusive for people with mobility issues or physical impairments is at the heart of what we do. Everyone deserves the right to connect with the soil! ♿🌿

Old Saybrook is truly leading the way by empowering their students with a certification that focuses on some key areas:

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM: Healing the Spirit, the Mind, and the Soil at Amity Regional High School 🍄🌱

Today’s engagement at Amity Regional High School was a powerful testament to the impact of cross-disciplinary healing. Standing on that auditorium stage, I looked out at a diverse group of 50 incredible students. We had students joining us from Culinary, Ecology, Environmental Science, and Agriculture, alongside students from regular classes.

This is the heart of the work we do at Healing By Growing Farms: Nature and mental wellness are for EVERYONE. 🌍✨

Whether a student is interested in the science of the soil, the art of food, or simply finding a better way to navigate their own "internal winter," our mission is to provide the tools to thrive at any age and for any ability.

I want to say a huge THANK YOU to Adrianna Linkstrom at Amity Regional High School for your vision and for giving me the opportunity to speak to your school today. And a deep thank you to Eric Dawson at Yellow Farm House for the opportunity and for bringing me in to do this vital work. Your partnership is the mycelium that makes this possible.

Radical Honesty & The Mycelium Trust:
We addressed the "Elephant in the Room"—the heavy soil of past trauma that many carry from a young age, and the "Winter of the Mind" that affects us all. Out of respect for the privacy and confidentiality of our students, we did not take photos of the session, but the energy of connection in that auditorium was unforgettable. We practiced our "Root-Taps" and leaned into the Mycelium Trust, proving that we are a connected network of support, not isolated icebergs. ❄️🧠

The Hands-On Demonstration:

From the stage, I performed a live demonstration to show how we can transform recycled, see-through salad containers into winter-growing sanctuaries.

♻️ The Lesson: We don't have to hide our growth. These clear containers served as a perfect metaphor: our healing journey can be visible, protected, and full of life, even in the coldest seasons.

🌱 The Action: I equipped these students with a practical tool they can take home to protect their own internal "sprouts" of hope while remaining connected to the network that supports them.
