We’re excited to share that Delicate Doula Services will be back at Project Connect again! 💛 Now rescheduled for April

Project Connect is an incredible day dedicated to supporting individuals and families in Charlevoix and Emmet Counties by connecting them with essential community resources. With 90+ local organizations and businesses participating, guests can access free services related to health, housing, employment, parenting support, and more.

We’ll be there to talk with families about how doula support can make a difference during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Whether you're expecting, planning for the future, or just curious about what a doula does, we would love to meet you and answer your questions.

Events like this are a wonderful reminder of how strong and supportive our community can be when we come together.

If you’re attending Project Connect, be sure to stop by and say hello! 👋

Your body often gives little hints that labor may be getting closer 👶✨

Some signs can show up days, or even weeks, before active labor begins, while others might appear shortly before contractions start picking up.

Remember:
Every pregnancy and labor is different.
You may experience all of these, some of them, or none at all before labor begins.
Your body and baby are working together to prepare for birth 💛

Which sign did you notice first with your pregnancy?

Pick your labor vibe:
🌿 Dim lights + calm music
🔥 Birth playlist + dancing
🛁 Tub + water labor
🍕 Snacks + Netflix early labor

There’s no one ‘right’ way to labor. What’s your vibe?

Things people have actually said in labor…

‘Don’t let my dog see me like this.’
‘I think I just peed but I’m not sure.’
‘Never mind, I DO want the epidural… maybe… wait…’
‘Why does everyone keep telling me to relax my jaw?!’

Labor is wild, unpredictable, and sometimes hilarious 😆

What’s the funniest thing you said or heard during labor?

Icy walkways + pregnancy = time to waddle like a penguin 🐧❄️

Seriously.

When you’re pregnant your center of gravity shifts, which makes slips more likely on ice.

The safest way to walk?
Short, flat-footed, slightly waddly steps… just like a penguin.
The penguin method:
🐧 Short shuffling steps
🐧 Feet a little turned out
🐧 Weight over your feet
🐧 Slow and steady

Is it cute? Yes
Is it glamorous? No
Does it help prevent falls? Absolutely!

If anyone asks why you’re waddling like that, just tell them:
“My doula said it’s science.”

So if you see a pregnant person waddling across an icy parking lot…
just know she understood the assignment.

There’s something so sacred about birthdays when you’re a doula. 💛

Every year, as I celebrate another trip around the sun, I can’t help but think about the tiny humans who share their birthdays with the women who have supported them into the world. What an incredible bond that must feel like, knowing your birthday buddy helped welcome you earthside 💕

I don’t have a birthday twin just yet… but my best friend and business partner, Diane, has been blessed with multiple birthday babies. And my youngest son, Xavier, even shares his birthday with some of our client babies, how special is that?! 🥹

One day, I would be deeply honored to share my birthday with a brand new baby. To witness their very first breath on a day that already holds meaning for me? That would be such a gift🎁

Until then, I’ll keep showing up, holding hands, whispering encouragement, and cheering on every beautiful birthday I get to be part of.

To all our birthday babies, you’ll forever hold a piece of our hearts 🤍

✨ BIG NEWS FOR DELICATE DOULA SERVICES ✨

Today we celebrate something incredibly special, our very own Co-Owner, Diane Hague, has officially graduated from the Doula Unbound Course with Dr. Bill Chun! 🎓💗

Over the last several months, Diane has been pouring her heart, time, and energy into advanced training to better support our clients, our community, and the sacred work we are called to do. This wasn’t just another certification, this was a deep dive into clinical education, advocacy within the healthcare system, and strengthening the bridge between doulas and medical teams.

Through this outstanding OB-backed training, Diane has expanded her clinical knowledge, refined her advocacy skills, and strengthened her ability to support families with both compassion and confidence.

A special message from Dr. Bill Chun:

“Hello Diane,
I am so incredibly proud to officially welcome you as a graduate of the Doula Unbound Course.
Taking this step wasn’t just about earning a certificate; it was a significant commitment to yourself, to your future clients, and to the sacred work of birth. You’ve spent weeks diving deep into clinical insights, navigating the complexities of the healthcare system, and refining your role as a powerful advocate from the inside out.
This is just the beginning.
The integrity and humanity you brought to your reflections and our sessions are what the birthing world needs most right now. But remember, the journey of a doula is never solitary.”

We could not be more proud. 💕

At Delicate Doula Services, we believe in continual growth. We believe in collaboration. We believe in blending evidence-based knowledge with heart-centered care. Diane’s commitment to expanding her education reflects our promise to families to show up informed, prepared, and deeply compassionate.

Congratulations, Diane! Your leadership, dedication, and passion elevate all of us. The families we serve are stronger because of you. 🤍✨

If pregnancy (or postpartum) feels like the same day over and over…you’re not doing it wrong.

Rest, routine, and repetition are forms of care, not stagnation.

Doulas support you through the in-between days, not just the big moments.

Late pregnancy be like: Is today the day?

Labor can feel like Groundhog Day:
contraction… rest… contraction… rest…

And just like the movie, the repetition isn’t meaningless, it’s how progress is made.
Each wave brings you closer, even when it feels the same.

Let us help you trust the rhythm and stay grounded in the process 🤍

✨ Let’s Talk About Oxytocin- The Love Hormone of Labor ✨

Oxytocin isn’t just for bonding and cuddles… it’s actually the key hormone that drives labor 💪🤍

🧠 What is oxytocin?
Oxytocin is a hormone released by the brain that causes the uterus to contract during labor and helps labor progress effectively.

🌊 What does it do in labor?
• Starts and strengthens contractions
• Helps labor move forward
• Supports bonding between parent & baby
• Reduces stress and fear
• Helps with milk release after birth

💗 Oxytocin loves calm + connection
Your body makes oxytocin best when you feel:
• Safe
• Supported
• Relaxed
• Loved

That’s why dim lights, quiet voices, gentle touch, encouragement, and feeling respected can actually help labor progress.

🚫 Oxytocin shuts down with fear
Stress, fear, feeling rushed, or not being supported can slow oxytocin, which may slow labor too.

🌸 Ways to boost oxytocin naturally during labor:
• Holding hands or hugging
• Massage or counter pressure
• Encouraging words
• Warm showers or baths
• Slow breathing
• Feeling informed and supported

✨ Labor isn’t just physical, it’s hormonal.
Your environment and emotional state matter just as much as what your body is doing.

💬 This is why continuous, compassionate support in labor is so powerful.
