When I was in high school, I often suffered (gastrointestinal) upset after hard workouts or races. Stomach cramping, and were not an uncommon thing in the hours after finishing. I assumed that was part of running hard and that there was nothing I could do about it. I wish I had known back then what I know now.

The temps and humidity continue to rise as athletes hit full summer training in preparation for the fall sports and competitions Be sure you have a plan in place to replace electrolytes and carb! If you do not prefer store-bought sports drinks, here is a simple make-your-own hydration option.

This is a baseline amount of sodium, so the sodium amount can be increased as needed for higher sodium sweat rates and/or higher sweat rates.

This would be considered a low-carbohydrate rehydration beverage, so be sure to fully replace carbohydrate using other quick energy options.

Remember that this will not be shelf stable, so cannot sit in the heat for more than 2 hours. Keep it on (or in) ice!

What an amazing group of over 100 runners intent on training their best and learning the most to perform their best. We had an all-morning seminar where lots of great information was shared - and we had a few fun games along the way!
