What a doula is NOT:
A doula is not someone who comes in and “takes over” the support person’s role.
A doula comes in and supports you and your partner. And helps them support you.
A doula is not going to talk to your doctor on your behalf.
Doulas empower you to talk to your doctor yourself by reminding you of your birth plan and by helping you feel ready with birth education.
A doula does not want you to have the birth that they want.
A doula wants you to have the birth YOU want. And, at the end of the day, feel satisfied with the birth you have.

I’m proud to be featured today on Lansing Doula Network’s FB page!

Meet Abby Sumbler. She’s a Certified Doula, Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, and a Certified Lactation Counselor.

Abby is a doula because she had great doulas. The doulas with the birth of her first child were supportive during a long pregnancy and labor. They reminded her of her own inner strength and helped her in a way no one else could.

The birth of her second child was by an unplanned C-section. She was glad her doula could be with her in recovery while her husband went with their son to the NICU.

Abby’s Mission:

To provide support and education for birthing people to reach their birth goals.

Excited to be a part of this!!

We're so excited to announce the launch of our newest grant, with Willow Tree Family Center: support for teen parents!

With this grant, we will provide full doula services (prenatal, birth, and postpartum) to a limited number of pregnant teens in the tri-county area.

We also will be able to provide education to any local pregnant or parenting teen, or caregivers of the children of pregnant or parenting teens. Classes offered will include childbirth education, infant sleep, lactation, newborn care, and infant CPR.

If you know a pregnant or parenting teen, please share with them. We will be accepting registration for classes as soon as they are scheduled with our expert instructors!
