Due to the storms last night, our 4660 & 4650 S Hagadorn buildings are experiencing an unexpected power outage, and we are temporarily closed. Power is estimated to restore to our buildings later this morning, and we hope to resume operations. If you have an affected appointment, our team will be reaching out to reschedule.

Additionally, the elevators are currently out of service in the 4660 building. If you need help reaching your floor, please contact your clinic directly.

We are happy to announce Susanna Wang has been awarded the 2025 Dr. David S. & Elaine O. Trump Surgery Scholarship! She will be honored with this award at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Virtual Awards Banquet in May.

Susanna is currently in her fourth year of medical school at Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine. She is looking forward to starting her urology residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota this July.

Susanna’s interest in urologic surgery began in the anatomy lab when she discovered that her prosection donor had undergone several complex urologic procedures. She has served as Co-President for the MSU CHM Grand Rapids Surgery Interest Group and Association of Women Surgeons at MSU CHM. Additionally, Susanna is passionate about medical education and mentorship. She recently launched a podcast series in collaboration with the Society of Women in Urology and was recognized as one of the “Top 10 to Follow” for the American Urological Association's 2025 Annual Urology Advocacy Summit. We wish Susanna all the best in her career in surgery!

We are deeply honored to have had the legendary Dr. Carlos Pellegrini visit Michigan State University, as he kicked off the Department of Surgery’s “Teaching with CARE” grant program with his address on finding joy, meaning, and purpose as a surgeon.

Thank you, Dr. Pellegrini, for your invaluable contributions to the surgical field and for reminding us of the significance of finding joy in our work and lives. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from a true pioneer.

Congratulations to Ashley O’Bryant, our Surgery Department Clerkship Administrator, who presented on "Different/Multiple Campuses" at the 2024 Association for Surgical Education National Meeting in Orlando, Florida at the end of April. While at ASE, she ran into Ashley May, the former Student Programs Administrator at the MSU College of Human Medicine Flint Campus, who now serves as the Director of Education for the Department of Surgery at University of Michigan Medical School
