Acupuncture patients ask for treatment of low back pain more than any other symptom. Why? Their kidneys are tired! Acupuncture treatment of specific types of chronic fatigue is often the key to eliminating chronic lumbar pain. The kidneys hold essential resources. Jing, or Essence, is our longevity energy and the energy reserves for any stress on the body or mind. Too much anxiety? Got pain? Many people just push harder. It often backfires.
We have a cultural ethic for overwork and often over-exercise. Inaction and rest are seen as laziness in our culture. So, people resist taking care of themselves with R&R. Rest, and especially sleep, are essential for good health. Relaxing activities such as meditation are also key in kidney health: they strengthen the kidneys and lumbar, and reduce pain. Acupuncture is great for restoring our essential kidney resources. With the skillful guidance of an experienced acupuncturist, pain can be gone forever.
Consistent successful treatment of back pain requires comprehensive diagnosis. Many people injure their backs by lifting heavy or via sports/injury. Often we find that kidney exhaustion is an underlying factor in those who do not heal quickly, or who have intermittent chronic back pain for the rest of their lives. Once diagnosed properly, all of the factors perpetuating the back pain can usually be cleared, alleviating the back pain even in those with degenerative disc issues. The key is good diagnosis and skillful treatment. For more info, see LoPrioreAcupuncture.com
