Boundaries set the standard for how we want to be treated. They help us to define what we will and will not tolerate, and what our needs and limits are. They assist us in deepening our sense of self by allowing us to gain a better understanding of who we are and what we stand for. Boundaries a great way to build self-love and self-respect, and help us form healthy relationships.

Many of us have been conditioned to be β€˜nice’ and to not cause issues, so may feel uncomfortable, mean or rude setting boundaries - saying β€˜no’ or directly asking for what we need and want.

However, when we live our lives without appropriate boundaries this can lead to feelings of anger, resentment, overwhelm and burnout.

It is our responsibility to identify and set these limits. It is okay if you currently do not know your boundaries, it is okay to find it scary or difficult to set them. It is a growth experience, it gets easier and it paves the path to create open and loving relationships. Be kind to yourself in the process.

Remember our boundaries are unique to us and although I have shared some examples in this post, it is important to reflect on what feels right for you personally.

Need help exploring, re-aligning, setting or enforcing your boundaries? Please feel free to contact our office with any questions or concerns you may have about the therapy process. If you are interested in scheduling a complimentary phone screening or a session, please contact us at (516) 543-3765

Let's talk about checking in on our friends. It's a small gesture that can make a big difference. Sometimes, all it takes is a simple 'how are you?' to show someone that you care about their well-being. Even if they don't immediately open up, you're planting the seed that you're there for them, ready to listen whenever they're ready to share.

But it doesn't stop there. Providing resources and options for mental health treatment can be incredibly valuable. You're not just offering a listening ear; you're also helping them find the support they need to navigate their struggles. And perhaps most importantly, let them know that you'll be there by their side through it all.

So next time you think about reaching out to a friend, remember that your small act of kindness could be the lifeline they desperately need. Let's create a culture of support and compassion, one 'how are you?' at a time.

Stress is that nagging feeling that deadlines, responsibilities, and pressures are mounting, like a storm brewing on the horizon. It's manageable, often motivating, and with the right strategies, you can weather it.

Burnout, on the other hand, is like being caught in a perpetual hurricane. It's the culmination of prolonged stress, draining your energy, enthusiasm, and even your sense of purpose.

It's crucial to distinguish between the two, to recognize when it's time to seek help, rest, and prioritize self-care. Your well-being is worth more than any to-do list.

Today, I encourage you to take a break. Give yourself permission to rest and rejuvenate. Whether it’s a short walk in nature, a cozy moment with a book, or simply closing your eyes and taking a deep breath, find that time for yourself.

Remember, self-care is not selfish. It’s essential. Taking a break allows us to recharge our minds, nourish our souls, and come back stronger than ever. It’s the key to maintaining balance, happiness, and overall well-being.

So let go of the guilt, the pressure, and the never-ending to-do list. Embrace the beauty of a moment of stillness. Your mind and body will thank you.

In therapy, we learn to observe our thoughts with compassionate curiosity, recognizing that they are not concrete truths but rather transient experiences. Just because a thought crosses your mind doesn't make it a reality. It's a liberating realization that grants you the power to challenge and reshape your perspective.

So, the next time a challenging thought drifts into your consciousness, remember this: you have the ability to question, reframe, and choose the thoughts that align with your well-being. ✨
