Know the Signs. Open the Conversation. Save a Life.

Suicidal thoughts in kids can be hard to spot — but paying attention early and speaking up can save lives.

🚩 Warning signs may include:
• Withdrawing from friends and family
• Sleeping or eating too much or too little
• Sudden mood swings
• Talking about being a burden or not belonging
• Giving away favorite items
• Expressing thoughts of wanting to die

🗣️ What you can do:
• Ask directly if they’re thinking about suicide — it shows you care
• Take all warning signs seriously
• Seek help right away if you believe they’re in danger

At Family Connections NJ4S-Essex, we want this conversation to continue beyond this month. That’s why we’re hosting a free webinar this October focused on youth mental health and suicide prevention — a chance to learn, connect, and keep building safe spaces for young people.

Because prevention doesn’t end when September does. 💬

📞 If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 — the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Happy International Literacy Day! ✨📚

At our NJ4S-Essex Back-to-School event in August, kids discovered the magic of storytelling—reminding us all that reading sparks imagination, creativity, and endless adventures! The joy on their faces as they held up their new books showed just how powerful stories can be.

And the excitement doesn’t stop there! Through our Reading Buddies program, in partnership with Our Kids Read, Essex County students in grades K–5 can practice reading 1:1 with a Prevention Consultant. Together, we’re helping children build skills, confidence, and a lifelong love of reading.
