Worrying about "when the other shoe drops" will just steal your present joy. Students predicting getting a poor grade on an examination felt bad for days before they received their results. Worse, their stress did not diminish their disappointment once they got their scores.

One underlying reason that worries people is that they assume it helps at some level. Yet we must accept that we can not prepare ourselves perfectly for potential challenges. There are countless bad things that might potentially happen, but most are impossible, and there's just no way a person can predict them all.

Keep in mind that we're notoriously bad at predicting how we're going to feel in a given situation and things often go better than we imagine in moments of fear. People say that they're concerned about something negative that could happen and they won't be caught off guard. What really upsets them is that though they sometimes experience bad things, they 're never the ones they 're thinking of.

Cultivate more casual and low-stakes friendships

Think about the parents you see in school drop-off line, your favorite bartender, the other park dog owners. These are known as low-stakes relationships, that is, weak ties. Not only can these linkages affect our job prospects, they can also have a positive impact on our well-being by helping us feel more connected to other social groups.

Weak linkages can offer services recommendations and empower us to be more empathetic. We'll probably feel less lonely, too. The weaker a person's ties are, for example, neighbours, a barista at the neighborhood coffee shop, or fellow members in a spin class, the happier they feel. Maintaining this network of acquaintances also contributes to one's own sense of community membership.

Choosing to spend time alone can benefit your social relationships, enhance your creativity and confidence, and help you regulate your emotions so you can cope with adverse situations better. It's not that isolation is always good, but it can be good if you're open to dismissing the notion, common in the West, that time alone is always a negative experience through which you're pushed.

Solitude allows us to control our feelings, it can have a soothing effect allowing us to communicate with others better. Better identifying moments when solitude is needed to recharge and reflect can help us better manage negative emotions and experiences, such as stress and burnout.

Your mind is uncluttered

Relationships are mentally expensive. Intimacy and partnership takes up a lot of space in our heads. Even though much of this is happening unconsciously, there’s simply a lesser capacity for individually focused thought.
Winter refers to the time people in relationships inevitably spend worrying about their partners and, at times, ruminating on even the smallest quarrels as “the price of love.” This sort of stress can inhibit people’s happiness by keeping them from living in the now.
Emotional discord can be all-consuming as it removes us from the present moment and present situation. This is true whether the internal turmoil is based on a fight with our mate, or a fear for our health and well being.
Being single is an act of purging the clutter and making room for new thoughts and dreams to breathe and grow.

You’re more open to whatever life throws your way

Being single can make people more willing to roll with the punches. It’s almost like you have no choice. When you’re alone you have to be more self-sufficient.
Free from the constraints of having a partner, people’s lives suddenly become totally and completely their own. There’s nobody hindering you from setting out to chase your ambitions. You’re more likely to take risks and have adventures and have more novelty within your journey.

Listening 3x more than you talk

Ask questions. Maintain eye contact. Smile. Frown. Nod. Respond, not just verbally, but nonverbally. That's all it takes to show the other person he or she is important.

When you do speak, don't offer advice unless you're asked. Listening shows you care a lot more than offering advice does, because when you offer advice, in most cases, you make the conversation about you.

Who is "Here's what I would do" about, you or the other person? Only speak when you have something important to say, and always define important as what matters to the other person, not to you.

Self-Confidence

We consider people who trust us. Confidence is "magnetic," and we're drawn to people who exude confidence. We want to be like them, maybe hoping that some of their faith will pass to us.
Research over many decades has shown that trust in oneself is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy that predicts happiness and achievement. It makes us unforgettable.

Respectfulness

Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. Unfortunately the pressures on us are so high that many of us have only time to love ourselves and the here and now. It appears that schools spend less time teaching history due to demands of investing precious time on other topics.

That is a short-sighted approach. There are also cases where younger people claim to have made substantial progress in their profession only to find that 30 years ago the same breakthrough had been made.

The need to be valued and accepted is the greatest need of human nature. Take the time to read history, and remember others, particularly their contributions. When we love others we receive their love in exchange. And for them we are unforgettable.

Increasing your creativity

One of the major advantages of having a hobby is that it makes you more creative. As for the career, this increased imagination can have a range of beneficial results.

For starters, if you take the time to go out into nature and take photos, you have to make a whole new set of artistic decisions. How do you cultivate the shot? Which way do you have to draw from that?

Having the opportunity to solve problems in such a pleasurable way can also add a new outlook to your work , allowing you to come up with solutions where appropriate, creatively and constructively.

Generosity

Generosity is the habit of giving without an expectation of return. This virtue will become increasingly important as the pandemic intensifies.
Not everyone has the same risk for developing severe disease. Adults over 70 years of age have a much higher risk of fatal infection, probably 10–20 times higher, than younger adults.
Generosity applies as well to our use of health care. The vast majority of people who contract the virus will experience mild symptoms, no worse than a cold or a mild flu.
As hospitals and doctors come under greater strain, those patients with mild symptoms should choose self-quarantine at home, rather than taking up valuable medical resources.
Similarly, during a public health crisis such as this, people should consider delaying non-critical medical care so as to reduce strain on the medical system.

Science-backed tips to working from home successfully:
Dressing for the job you still have

Psychologists recommend you get dressed for work rather than joining those video calls in your PJs.
More than just keeping up appearances, it helps to put your brain in work mode.
The term “enclothed cognition” is used to describe the way that clothes can affect the wearer’s behaviour.
If you would normally wear a shirt to work, wear one in the home office too.
Get dressed in the morning, make yourself feel like you’re going to work but be comfortable.
Don’t skip the shower, either.
A cold shower can boost your mood and attention.

Science-backed tips to working from home successfully:
Sitting near a window

The area of environmental psychology, which examines our relationship with our immediate surroundings, has much to teach us not to be trapped indoors and build a home office.

The first thing you need to consider is where to sit.

A term known as 'refuge and prospect' suggests that, with our back to the wall and a view of the door or window, humans are more relaxed sitting.

It is assumed that we choose these environments because by being the best places we could be, these conditions will lead to our survival.

A trees view, or even a landscape photo on your wall can help.

When you can find a room with a view of some sort of nature, that has the potential to minimize blood pressure and the release of stress hormones, and it enhances the ability to concentrate your attention.
