February is Macular Degeneration Awareness Month ποΈπ
Age related macular degeneration AMD is one of the leading causes of vision loss in adults over 50. It affects the macula, the part of the retina responsible for sharp central vision used for reading, driving, and recognizing faces.
Early stages may not have noticeable symptoms, but warning signs can include
β’ Blurry or fuzzy central vision
β’ Straight lines appearing wavy
β’ Dark or empty spots in your center vision
Risk factors include age 50 and older, family history, smoking, and high blood pressure.
β¨ Early detection is key.
At Eye Check, we use advanced technology to evaluate your retinal health, including
πΈ Digital Retinal Imaging to capture detailed images and monitor changes over time
π OCT Optical Coherence Tomography scans to detect early macular changes beneath the surface
ποΈ Unrushed, comprehensive exams designed to give your eyes the detailed attention they deserve
These tools allow us to detect AMD and other retinal conditions early, often before significant vision loss occurs.
If you are over 50 or have not had a retinal evaluation recently, now is the time to schedule your comprehensive eye exam.
