National Wear Red Day / American Heart Month
Your heart & kidneys are teammates
A patient once told us: “I thought high blood pressure was a heart problem… I didn’t know it was a kidney problem too.”That sentence stays with us—because it’s so common.
Your heart and kidneys work as a team. When blood pressure stays high, kidneys take the hit. When kidney function declines, blood pressure often rises.

This month, keep it simple:
• Check your numbers (and write them down)
• Aim for steady movement (even short walks count)
• Watch sodium—small changes add up

Wear red today if you can. But more importantly: protect what keeps you going.

If your blood pressure has been creeping up, let’s talk.

Cancer & kidneys: the connection people don’t expect.
World Cancer Day is a reminder that cancer affects more than one organ. For many patients, the kidney story becomes part of the cancer story—sometimes quietly, sometimes suddenly.

We’ve met patients who finished treatment and thought the hardest part was over…
…and then their labs started changing. Fatigue lingered. Swelling appeared. Blood pressure climbed.

If you’re navigating cancer care (or survivorship), ask your care team about kidney monitoring—especially if you’ve had:
• Certain chemotherapies or immunotherapies
• Dehydration episodes
• Frequent imaging with contrast
• New blood pressure changes

You deserve care that looks at the whole picture—not just one chapter.
If your labs changed during or after treatment, SKA is here to help.

Your first visit: what happens next
Sometimes the hardest part isn’t the diagnosis—it’s the not knowing what comes next.We hear it all the time: “I’m nervous… I don’t even know what questions to ask.”

At your first visit with SKA, we slow things down. We review your history, your blood pressure trends, your labs, and the “why” behind your symptoms—so you leave with a plan that makes sense.

Bring this with you (if you can):
• A list of medications (or photos of the bottles)
• Recent lab results
• Your questions—yes, even the “small” ones

Because kidney care isn’t a single appointment. It’s a relationship built on clarity and follow-through.

Thank You, Community
Health is a shared journey.
Some days we celebrate great lab results. Some days we celebrate simply showing up. To our patients, families, and community partners: thank you for your trust, your questions, and your commitment to your health.
We’ll continue to earn that trust—with clear answers, thoughtful follow-up, and care that puts people first.

Movement for BP & CKD
Movement is medicine—especially when it’s consistent.
You don’t need a gym membership to support kidney health. Short walks, gentle stretching, and regular movement throughout the day can improve blood pressure, energy, sleep, and mood.
Start where you are. Stack small wins. Sustainable habits—not extremes—are what protect your future health.

Protein in Urine (Proteinuria 101)
Sometimes the earliest warning signs are easy to miss.
Foamy urine can be harmless—but it can also signal protein in the urine, an early sign that kidneys are under stress. A simple urine ACR test can help catch changes before symptoms appear.

Early detection creates options: medication adjustments, lifestyle shifts, and a plan that protects kidney function long-term. If you notice changes, say something. Prevention works best when we act early.

Nursing & MA Teams
Before the provider enters the room, someone has already been listening.
Nurses and medical assistants notice the details—the fatigue, the progress, the questions that matter most. They translate medical language, steady nerves, and keep care moving forward behind the scenes.

Healthcare runs on teamwork, and their presence is felt in every visit. Thank you for being the steady heartbeat of patient care.

Sodium Smart Swaps
Many patients are surprised to learn how much sodium comes from packaged foods—soups, sauces, deli meats—long before the salt shaker comes out. Those small amounts add up, affecting blood pressure and kidney workload.

Start with awareness. Choose fresh foods when possible. Taste before salting. Use herbs, citrus, and spices to build flavor without overload. Reading labels can be one of the most powerful prevention tools you use.

Small swaps create real change—especially over time.

MLK Day
“Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” On this day, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by recommitting to care that treats every person with dignity. In waiting rooms and exam rooms, service looks like listening fully, explaining clearly, and doing right by each patient—no matter what. May our work reflect the equity and compassion Dr. King envisioned.

We’re Here When You Need Us
The best care is the care you can actually reach.
Whether it’s your first appointment of the year or a question between labs, timely access matters. Health doesn’t pause between visits—and neither should support. Getting answers, understanding next steps, and feeling heard shouldn’t be complicated.
Good care feels human. It feels responsive. And it feels like someone’s in your corner.

Ask your provider to walk you through your numbers: what’s typical for you, what changes matter most, and where prevention can make the biggest impact. Knowledge isn’t just data—it’s direction.

Physician Story - Dr. Hunter.
Medicine isn’t just numbers on a chart; it’s the life those numbers belong to.
In the exam room, I’m listening for more than labs. I’m listening for the morning routine, the foods someone loves, the energy they want back, the future they’re trying to protect. From there, we build a plan that fits real life, not a textbook.

Good medicine blends science with empathy. It explains tradeoffs, adjusts when needed, and celebrates progress no matter how small. That balance is what turns information into action and care into trust.
