Classical Pearls

Classical Pearls Classical Pearls Herbal Formulas™ are unique Chinese herbal formulations designed for the treatmen

OUR APPROACH IS SIMPLE

We manage the sourcing, production and formulation of the highest quality ingredients into unique and potent formulations based on the classical medical texts, and fine-tuned to treat modern patients suffering from the complex diseases of our times. Herbal medicine was once the only modality to cure serious diseases. Today, the intricate alchemical principles and the experi

ence based approach of traditional herbal science has become overshadowed by laboratory parameters—often to the detriment of clinical results. It is the mission of Classical Pearls to launch a return to the classical and clinic-based roots of Chinese herbal medicine. A RETURN TO THE CLINICAL POWER OF OUR ROOTS

Classical Pearls is proud to be part of an international movement that seeks to honor and restore the classical origins of Chinese medicine. Chinese medicine is a highly sophisticated science and deeply spiritual art form. We believe in trusting what history has taught us – that Chinese herbal formulation is based on simple foundational principles that are often ignored or misunderstood in the construct of modern TCM education. With our formulas and the core educational concepts behind them, our goal is to preserve the true clinical power and efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine. OUR FORMULAS HAVE EVOLVED FROM CLASSICAL MEDICAL TEXTS

Each of our remedies incorporates principles of classical formula design synthesized from the ancient texts of Oriental medicine and a variety of classical lineage approaches. Based on over two decades of clinical experience, tightly structured classical formulas have been combined and fine-tuned to the modern diseases of our time. It is our sincere hope that the study and use of the Classical Pearls series of products can help Oriental medicine practitioners increase their clinical efficacy and gain a better understanding of the time-honored principles of alchemical wisdom that are gradually being forgotten.

🌾Bamboo Pearls’ design is based on the 2nd century remedy Guizhi Shaoyao Zhimu Tang, which first appeared in Zhang Zhongjing’s classic for miscellaneous diseases, Essentials from the Golden Cabinet (Jingui yaolüe).

From a traditional perspective, the combination of cinnamon, ginger, medium dose aconite and other warming herbs opens congested channels and collaterals, dries damp, and expels wind; peony, especially in combination with cinnamon and aconite, emolliates sensations of pain, cramping, tingling and numbness; in combination with anemarrhena, the cooling herb peony can also eliminate localized heat congestion.

🌿Wujiapi (Acanthopanax gracilistylus), commonly known as Siberian ginseng bark or Eleutherococcus root bark, is a yang-tonifying herb used in Chinese medicine to strengthen the sinews and bones, expel wind-dampness, and support the Liver and Kidney systems.
This hardy shrub, native to central and southern China, thrives in forested hillsides and is identified by its palmate leaves, thorny purple stems, and woody structure. It belongs to the Araliaceae family—closely related to other tonic herbs like Ren Shen (Panax ginseng).

A helpful formula today may not be the right one tomorrow. 🌿
Chinese medicine is inherently adaptive—rooted in the idea that the body is always changing. As practitioners, it’s essential to check in regularly with patients and adjust formulas as their condition evolves.

Let this be a reminder to open that conversation:
📌 How has the patient’s pattern shifted?
📌 Are they still responding the same way?
📌 Could it be time to modify or rotate formulas?

Flexibility is part of the medicine. 💡

It's , and today we're highlighting Spirit Pearls!

Spirit Pearls is based on the Shanghan lun formulas Suanzaoren Tang (Suanzaoren has been replaced by Lingzhi in the most recent release) and Baihe Huashi San, as well as the clinical case histories of one of Heiner's teachers and colleagues, the Northern Chinese master physician Dr. Wu Sheng’an, whose approach to difficult and recalcitrant diseases reflects the lineages of the imperial court physician Zhu Mulin and the middle and upper burner teachings of the 18th century clinician Huang Kunzai.

This unique herb combination calms shen and neutralizes anxiety/trauma by stabilizing the yin of the Heart and Lung, opening the or***ce of the Heart, and reversing energetic counterflow affecting the chest and head region.

🌾Classical Pearls Acorus gramineus (Shichangpu) is sourced in the didao (terroir appropriate) region of Northern Guizhou province, where it is grown in near wild conditions. Historically, the herb has been valued for its ability to “open the Heart or***ce” and related effects in the treatment of mental diseases, brain chemistry disorders, and various pathologies involving nervous system inflammation. It is an important ingredient in several of our remedies, including Spirit Pearls, Gingko Pearls, and Lightning Pearls.

🌿🌞Another solstice has come round and with it another Fuzi harvest in the traditional terroir for medicinal aconite in Jiangyou, Sichuan. 🌿🌞

💮Classical Pearls is once again cooperating with local growers and processing facilities to source the best aconite roots that have come on the market from these time-honored fields, where the genuine aconite varieties of Fuzi, Chuanwu/Wutou and Tianxiong have been produced for over two millennia. Due to the recent establishment of an amusement park in Jiangyou and increasing monopolization of the aconite harvest by government contractors, however, the total amount of genuine Jiangyou aconite keeps shrinking every year. In addition, local farmers have started to cut corners by simplifying the labor-intensive cultivation techniques involved in the production of top-quality aconite roots (for a detailed description of this process see Yang Tianhui’s 11th century travelogue to Jiangyou, translated by Heiner Fruehauf).

🌱The standard shape of the medicinal aconite tuber, comprised of the Chuanwu mother root at the center and two Fuzi offsprings on the side, is therefore gradually becoming replaced by gnarled and asymmetrical crop yields that more and more resemble the type of wild growing monkshood growing elsewhere all over the world (generally referred to as Caowu rather than Fuzi in the Chinese materia medica). While Classical Pearls is still able to source top-quality Fuzi and Chuanwu due to longstanding relationships with the local village community, we harbor serious concerns about the sustainable future of this particular piece of world heritage medicine.
