Today with the slippery conditions, I have been thinking about the need for avoiding falls.
1) Clear out tripping hazards.
2) Use night lights where indicated.
3) Practice balance exercises or Tai Qi. Just a little bit per day can improve balance and strengthen your muscles. Ask your doctor for some examples that are suited for your abilities.
4) Have traction devices for your shoes. They are inexpensive and very effective if you cannot avoid slippery surfaces. If you are really stuck, consider putting your socks on the outside of your shoes. (deadly for the socks).
5) Use hiking poles if not solid ice you are walking on.
