Meet our Hattie Hero: Stephen Palmer

After nearly three weeks hospitalized with a serious abdominal illness, Stephen came to Hattie Ide Chaffee's Rehabilitation Wing unable to walk, requiring a mechanical lift, and dependent for daily care.

Over seven weeks, our dedicated team worked together to help Stephen reclaim his independence:

Physical Therapy rebuilt his strength, balance, and ability to walk
Occupational Therapy helped him regain stamina for daily activities
Speech Therapy improved his diet and intake
Nursing managed his medical needs and educated Stephen and his wife for home care

Today, Stephen walks with his walker, performs most daily tasks independently, has regained weight, and is eating a regular diet again. With a stair glide and medical equipment in place through the VA, plus homecare services lined up, Stephen is HEADING HOME AFTER HEALING AT HATTIE, stronger, healthier, and ready to continue his recovery with his loving wife.

Here's what Stephen had to say:
"When I arrived at Hattie Ide Chaffee, I felt like I left a dark place physically and psychologically. Your service of care by the entire staff has been excellent. You made me feel like part of the Chaffee family and provided professional guidance with a smile. Friendly people made all the difference in my recovery. I am very grateful."
— Stephen Palmer

We were thrilled to welcome Calvin Alexander from the Rhode Island Beekeepers Association today for a fascinating presentation all about bees and honey. Calvin shared his expertise on everything from the incredible work honeybees do to the art of beekeeping, and we were completely captivated!
The room was buzzing with curiosity (pun intended!) as everyone asked thoughtful questions and learned something new about these amazing pollinators. It’s always a joy to see everyone so engaged and excited to learn.
Thank you, Calvin, for sharing your knowledge and passion with us. 🐝 🍯

We had the most wonderful time decorating these adorable little pumpkins that were so generously gifted to us by a kind family member! 🧡
We covered them in colorful pom-poms and festive Thanksgiving stickers! The results are absolutely delightful, and now each table in our dining room has its own cheerful little pumpkin centerpiece. 🍂
A huge thank you to Anthony Rivera for coming up with this fantastic idea, it was a hit with everyone!
