October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀
Monthly breast self-examinations are believed to be the first step in early detection of breast cancer, along with yearly physical exams by a qualified physician and yearly mammograms after the age of 40. As a physician who performs a lot of breast surgery, I always encourage my patients, not just this month, to include a breast self-exam into their self-care routine monthly. So, whether in the shower, in the mirror, or laying down, look, touch and feel each breast so that any changes could be detected more readily.
