Onset Fire Department "The Desire to Serve, The Courage to Act, The Ability to Perform" Onset is a census-designated place in the town of Wareham.

The Onset Fire Department is located at 41°44′47″N 70°39′48″W in Southeast Massachusetts approximately 60 miles south of Boston. We have a population of 1,573 residents living in an area of 1.30 sq miles. We operate out of two stations. Our Department has 6 full time firefighters and 54 call firefighters

8/08/2025 - 2nd Alarm Structure Fire

Thank you to all our personnel and the assisting agencies who operated for several hours at yesterday's 2nd Alarm Structure Fire.

At the 2023 Annual Onset Fire District meeting, voters authorized the purchase of a new pumping engine. The truck is a Rosenbauer Commander/EXT custom pumper, equipped with a 1500 gallon per minute Hale pump and a 750 gallon on board water tank.

A few weeks ago, production of the engine started at the Rosenbauer factory in Minnesota. The truck is scheduled to be completed in the fall.

We appreciate the work done by our staff, the local dealer, and the manufacturer to make this project happen, and above all else we appreciate the support of the voters to approve and fund the purchase of this vital piece of equipment.

Missing party has been located.

The Onset Fire Dept. is currently assisting Wareham Police with a search for a missing person.

The Wareham Police Department and regional police assets (SEMLEC) are currently conducting a search for a missing 19-year-old, by the name of Angel. Angel is a high-functioning individual with Down Syndrome. Angel was last known to be in the area of the western end of Onset Ave. Please call 911 with any sightings. Thank you.

Thank you to the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League and the Plymouth County DA’s Office for having us at their First Responders Night on Saturday. Our Capt. Feeney joined 1st Responder partners in throwing out the first pitch. This was after the Firefighters beat the WPD in the 1st Annual Battle of the Badges Charity Softball Game. We’re looking forward to participating in more great events in the community!

We would like to congratulate 5 of our Firefighters who graduated from the Mass Maritime Academy today. Some will be staying on with us, while others will be moving on to be career firefighters back in their home communities. Great job men! 🚨🚨REMINDER: District Meeting is tonight at 7:30pm at the Onset Fire Station, 8 Sand Pond Rd. All registered district voters are encouraged to attend. Onset District Elections are tomorrow, May 20th from 4pm-8pm at the Dudley Brown VFW Post, 4 Gibbs Ballpark Rd.🚨🚨

Onset Breaker 149 was on scene at yesterday’s brush fire at Joint Base Cape Cod. Onset C1 served as the Communications Chief for the incident. Today, Onset Breaker 1 and C2 are back at Joint Base assisting with extinguishing the remaining areas of the brush fire.
