We're excited to share that Kat Goering from Room One will be one of our our guest speakers for the February Learning Session. Room One is a powerful example of what basic needs for health and safety look like in action, especially in a rural community.

Rooted in the Methow Valley, Room One believes in neighbors looking out for neighbors. Their advocates walk alongside people who have limited access to safety net programs, offering crisis support and real connections to help.

From direct support to creative prevention work, Room One exemplifies what it means to care for a whole community.

Thank you Aliya for your continued commitment to advancing health and wellbeing across our region!

Honoring Aliya Quidwai - The Backbone of Advance🌱💙

There are moments in an organization’s life that deserve pause- not because something is ending, but because something meaningful is changing.

As Aliya transitions from her role as Director of Operations at Advance into her new position as Chief Operating Officer for Family Health Centers of North Central Washington's health and dental clinics, we want to take this moment to honor her leadership and the lasting impact she has had on Advance.

While Aliya continues her work in service of community health, her transition marks a meaningful shift for our organization- one that calls for reflection, gratitude, and celebration.

There are people who don’t just lead an organization…

They shape it. They root it. They build it from the ground up so others can stand steady.

For Advance, that person has been Aliya Quidwai.

From the earliest days- before our programs had names, before our offices were full, before the community knew who we were- Aliya carried the vision that became Advance. She built our systems, our culture, and the heart of the work we do every day.

She has been:

• The steady voice in moments of crisis
• The champion for clients when the path forward seemed impossible
• The mentor who lifted staff up and helped them grow into their strength
• The believer in this work long before the rest of us could see what it would become

As she steps into this next chapter, we honor the legacy she leaves behind- one that lives in every program, every partnership, every success story, and every staff member she has shaped along the way.

This is not a goodbye. It is a moment to say:

Advance would not be what it is today without you.

Your roots are in every part of this organization.
Your impact will continue for years to come.
Your leadership changed all of us.

Thank you, Aliya, for building the foundation we now stand on. We will carry your legacy forward- always.🙏🩵

As we honor Native American Heritage month, we want to shine a spotlight on two of our network members whose Indigenous-led programs are strengthening culture, connection, and community wellbeing across North Central Washington.

The Indigenous Roots and Reparation Foundation (IRRF) is dedicated to preserving Indigenous history, traditions, language, and relationships with the natural world. With support from our 2025 Vital Conditions Grant, IRRF will launch its 2026 Culture Camp—providing land-based education, cultural connection, and traditional practices that foster belonging and intergenerational healing.

The Nature Immersion Program is expanding land-based, culturally responsive education for Tribal and BIPOC youth who was also selected to receive funds from the Vital Conditions Grant. These funds will help launch a new Social Emotional Learning curriculum that will blend emotional wellbeing, leadership, and cultural teachings through a summer culture camp and classroom program, with the long-term goal of sharing it across the Upper Columbia Plateau.

Learn more about their work and explore other resources, including a Tribal Data Sovereignty report, in our latest newsletter using the link below.
