On the 8th, I had the absolute pleasure of working on two incredible mares! One is Cowgirl (didn't get pictures of her), and the other is Reba Jean! They were both so lovely and really enjoyed their time. Lots of increased blood flow, tension releasing, and parasympathetic nervous system reset for Cowgirl and as for Reba, lots of working through prior sensitivity and tension release! She was a bit nervous since this was her first session and her first time meeting me, but it couldn't have gone better! Thank you so much for having me out, Audrey and Cassandra; I always love going to your place!

One of the biggest things I advocate for as an equine massage therapist and as a horseman is a true love for the horse.

Through learning the art of massage, I learned so much about the physical body of the horse and how to help heal and regenerate it, but so much healing starts with love and the right intention.

It can be so hard to look past the horse's coat and hide, but beyond it lies so much in a thinking feeling being.

This has led to horses connecting with me easier, and it has also made it harder for some. It is never easy to be called out.

The moral of the story is to always love the horse first, and the rest will follow. 💕

I still have quite a few pictures I want to post from this shoot!

Otherwise, let's talk about the benefits of mane pulling in massage. One of the main things it does is pull the skin up and down, as well as a bit of side to side depending on how it is done. This loosens up fascia that may be stuck in the neck and pulls on the neck crest and nuchal ligament as well. This promotes the release of endorphins. The same thing is achieved by massaging the crest of the neck!

I worked on Sparky the other day again, so this makes it his second real massage. This was on his right side, and he had so many nice releases. Lots of blinks, licking and chewing, yawning, etc. The biggest thing I feel when I work on him is how guarded his muscles are. He is so tense all the time, and I can see it in the way he moves. He is such a kind horse, but an anxious one.

The best part about really diving into working on him is how much closer we have become. I am truly so fond of this horse, and I am so excited for him to be a real part of the Good Vibes team! 💕

I got some good work in on Sparky the other day. He has so much to work out in his back and ribs. I'm really throwing myself into working on him and building his muscles up. I can't wait to share more of our journey and really get started!

Today at work, I was cleaning a paddock, and a horse came up to me. I thought he was just looking for scratches, but he moved over in such a way that I could tell he needed something more. Gone are the days of seeing things only at skin level!

One of my favorite moves in massage is Myofascial Release, or MFR. What is it?

To begin with, what is fascia? Fascia is a form of connective tissue that surrounds everything in the body. Made up of water, collagen and ground substance, it is normally found to be a liquid film type texture. It is found everywhere in the body and acts to hold things together and protect them.

Now, what is Myofascial Release and why is it necessary? When the body sustains an injury, the fascia turns from a liquid type state to a solid glue-like state in order to splint the injury site. This limits range of motion so the body can heal properly and not reinjure the area. Sometimes when an injury has healed, the fascia does not return to it's original state, so the injury site remains caged and splinted. This is where Myofascial Release comes in. The goal is to release the muscles from their cage to give them back their range of motion and being able to move as they were before. The only way to release fascia is through extended compression and stretch. This may look different depending on the areas affected and where the stretch would originate from.

This mare was really enjoying this portion of her session as she had a lot of stuck fascia in her long back muscles.
