When a parent experiences the loss of a spouse, both of you find yourselves in a challenging and unfamiliar situation. By offering a compassionate listening ear, providing support for establishing new routines, and gently encouraging social connections, you can significantly ease this difficult transition.

Remember, as you support your parent through their grief, it is equally vital to prioritize your emotional well-being. Your strength and self-care will enhance your ability to help them heal.

💜 Honoring Local Purple Heart Recipients 🇺🇸

On August 7, the community will once again come together to pay tribute to 17 local recipients of the Purple Heart — the U.S. military decoration awarded to service members who were wounded or killed in combat.

Hosted by the Chelan County Veterans Program, the second annual recognition ceremony will take place from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Wenatchee Veterans Hall. The program will include a Presentation of Colors and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque featuring the names of this year’s honorees, who served in military conflicts ranging from World War I to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In 2024, both Chelan and Douglas counties — along with the cities of Wenatchee and East Wenatchee — formally became Purple Heart communities through proclamations recognizing their commitment to honoring those wounded or lost in combat.
