While almost all Washington workers will contribute to WA Cares, exemptions are available for certain groups of workers who are unlikely to be able to use their benefits. Voluntary exemption applications are available for workers who live out of state, spouses of active-duty U.S. armed forces members, workers on nonimmigrant visas, and veterans with a 70% or higher service-connected disability rating. Even in Washington’s milder summers, UV rays can affect older adults in ways that aren’t always obvious.

With age, skin becomes more delicate and eyes more sensitive to sunlight. Too much exposure may also contribute to dehydration and impact energy or focus.

A few simple steps can help:
✔️ Wear sunscreen, even on cloudy days
✔️ Choose sunglasses with UV protection
✔️ Stay shaded midday
✔️ Drink plenty of water

From missed work to mounting expenses, family caregivers often carry a heavy load. The WA Cares Fund helps Washingtonians plan for long-term care, easing the burden on loved ones.

All working Washingtonians contribute a small percentage of their income into the fund. Then when you need care, you can access your earned benefit of $36,500 (adjusted up to inflation) to pay for services.

These monthly groups are a great opportunity to connect, share experiences, and find support in a welcoming, understanding environment.
