I love this so much.

Day 20 of my advent.

If you are in the northern hemisphere… we are almost upon the solstice tomorrow at 3pm. And from then, light begins to return to us. It’s always returning and you always survive. What a thing.

Blessings winter solstice 🧙‍♀️✨✨

In 2025, the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere falls on December 21

The winter solstice marks the shortest day and longest night of the year, occurring when the Sun reaches its lowest point in the sky. It has been observed for centuries across cultures as a turning point—symbolizing rest, reflection, and the gradual return of longer days and increasing light.

A Winter Solstice Blessing

The winter solstice is a sacred time,
infused with quiet magic and returning light.
It is a moment when the universe, in its infinite kindness,
awakens our hearts to tender and brighter possibilities,
rekindling the light of hope within our souls
as a new cycle of light slowly begins.

In this holy pause between darkness and dawn,
we are invited to release,
to loosen our grip on old patterns, heavy sorrows,
and lingering wounds that we may continue to carry.
With open hands and gentle hearts,
we step forward,
cradling the promise of brighter, more hopeful beginnings.

May all who have known loss or disappointment
find comfort in this peaceful turning.
May the light, though small at first,
guide us faithfully through the darkest days,
reminding us that even the longest night
must yield to morning.

As we give thanks for all that has nourished us,
every lesson, every kindness, every tenderness
that shaped our year,
we honor the path that brought us here.
And in gratitude,
we begin again,
walking onward with renewed hope,
gentle anticipation,
and the quiet courage
to welcome the year ahead.

Join me on Sunday, December 21st at Elm Street Plaza for our annual community menorah lighting as we kindle the 8th candle to celebrate the 8th evening of Chanukah, the Festival of Lights. ✨

After the ceremony, all are welcome to gather for a festive feast of latkes at First United Methodist Church, 16 Court Street.

The menorah will be lit each evening of Chanukah, beginning at sundown on Sunday, December 14 and continuing through nightfall on December 22.

Residents interested in volunteering to light a candle during the holiday can call the Mayor’s Office at 413‑572‑6201 to be added to the schedule.

4️⃣ Night 4 — The Light of Miracles

Hanukkah is a season of divine intervention—of God doing what no human effort could. The Maccabees faced impossible circumstances, yet God delivered, restored, and brought forth a miracle that still testifies today.

Matthew 4:16 declares, “The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light.” That light is Jesus, the promised Messiah, whose coming broke through every shadow of death. The miracles of Hanukkah point us toward the miracle of His birth, His salvation, and the hope He brings to every generation.

Tonight, lift your expectations. What seems small, God can increase. What seems impossible, He can turn into a testimony.

“For with God nothing will be impossible.” — Luke 1:37

🕯️ May your home be filled with faith for His miraculous light to break through.
