The advantages of robotic surgery – and in particular, the new Da Vinci Robot Xi installed last fall at UM Shore Medical Center at Easton – was the subject of a dinner presentation for health providers last week in the hospital’s Health Education Center.
Organized by Khalid Kurtom, MD, FAANS, FACS, in his capacity as Surgery Department Chair for UM Shore Regional Health, the presentation provided in-depth information for referring providers about the advantage of robotic surgery for patients, including reduced pain and faster recovery, and about the ways in which the new equipment offers surgeons improved positioning and flexibility, and less physical strain.
Presenters to the group were: general surgeons Dr. John Moon and Dr. Dabanjan Bandyopadhyay; urologist Dr. Andrew Riggin; and women’s health providers Dr. Audrey Drummey, Dr. Palak Doshi and Dr. Abbie Fields.
Dr. Kurtom noted that since pandemic restrictions have been lifted, there are now more opportunities for physicians to get together in-person and share information, ideas and resources in the interest of advancing quality patient care.
