We have a new PA house speaker ; here is what I wrote to him -----------------------------Congratulations on your election as Speaker of the Pennsylvania State House. I am happy to see that you have a 85% lifetime score on the Pennsylvania Environmental Scorecard, and I’m reaching out to strongly urge you to make the environment and voting rights a priority during your tenure.
Two ways you can do good for the environment are promoting and rewarding regenerative organic agriculture as can be accomplished on small scale farms through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) to put carbon back in the ground where it belongs and by legislating the ability of citizens coming together to share in the benefits of large solar arrays . Maryland has had this in place for years and their citizens get electric for at least 10% less than what the power companies charge. In PA we can buy clean power but it is at least 10% more expensive.
Pennsylvanians face tremendous environmental challenges, with communities of color and low-income communities bearing the brunt of environmental pollution that are clear health hazards. Please keep these challenges and communities across the Commonwealth at the forefront of your leadership and decision-making. I’m counting on you to fight for our families and for our green spaces and waterways, address sources of air pollution, support clean energy jobs and a just clean energy transition, and eliminate barriers to voting – all of which are critical to our quality of life. These are priorities that are shared by the vast majority of Pennsylvanians.
