When the world feels heavy and uncertain, here’s a gentle reminder:
You’re allowed to slow down.
You’re allowed to protect your peace.
Not everything needs your attention today.
Focus on what you can control, even if it’s something small: your breath, your space, your next step.
There is still light, even on the hard days.
Be gentle with yourself. 🤍

Gentle reminders for when the world feels frightening. ⬇️ 💛 When the world feels frightening I keep my heart soft, my feet on the ground, and my focus on what I can control. 🩵 -Nat 😊

We say farewell to our dear youth client who joined our Youth Services Program at the age of 7 and is now 18, marking an incredible journey of growth and resilience.

He shared that one of the most valuable things he has learned from being in Channel Marker’s Youth Services Program is how to manage and control his anger, an achievement that speaks to his hard work and dedication.

While he will miss the Youth Program, we are confident he will carry the skills and lessons he’s gained into this next stage of his life.

We encourage him to continue using the tools he has developed and to keep moving forward with confidence. We wish him all the very best in the future.

Happy Friday!🩷

Channel Marker was honored to receive the 2026 Eastern Shore Leadership Award in the Legacy Award category from Shore Leadership. This distinction recognizes longstanding service to both Shore Leadership and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Legacy Award recipients exemplify a lifelong commitment, whether through personal efforts or through their organization's mission, to make a meaningful, positive impact on the lives of Eastern Shore residents. They do so with integrity, honesty, and humility at the forefront of their work.

Channel Marker has maintained a strong connection with Shore Leadership for the past 17 years. This partnership began with former Executive Director Debbye Jackson, a member of the Class of 2009, and continued with current CEO Cathy Cassell (Class of 2011) and Clinical Director Marty Cassell (Class of 2012). Cathy has served twice as a Shore Leadership board member and has remained actively involved on the program committee and other supportive Shore Leadership committees. Channel Marker’s Board Chair, Tolbert Rowe, Vice Chair, Addie Eckardt, and Board Member Elizabeth Anthony are also proud alumni of Shore Leadership.

In 2021, Cathy made the decision to enroll all of Channel Marker’s director-level staff in both the Shore Leadership program and Shore Leadership 2.0, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to leadership development. To date, eight staff members have graduated from Shore Leadership, with a ninth currently participating in the Class of 2026. Additionally, three staff members are alumni of Shore Leadership 2.0, with a fourth scheduled to enroll this summer.

Cathy Cassell shared, “We believe deeply in the Shore Leadership Program and value it as a high-quality, distinctive leadership experience. Its exceptional facilitators, along with a strong foundation of community, peer engagement, and networking, create an environment that fosters both personal and professional growth. This is what truly sets the program apart.

Some struggles don’t show on the surface. People can keep up appearances, working, smiling, checking all the boxes, while quietly carrying a heavy emotional load. Just because everything looks fine doesn’t mean it feels that way. Offer yourself grace, and extend kindness to others, you never know what someone may be facing behind the scenes.

Functional depression doesn’t always look like falling apart. It can look like showing up, smiling, and getting things done while silently struggling inside. Just because someone seems “okay” doesn’t mean they aren’t hurting. Be gentle with yourself and others because you never know what someone is carrying. 🌷💙🌷
