The clinic of Good Health Colorado sits nestled in the Rio Grande Valley directly south of Creede, Colorado . At an elevation just below 10,000ft and surrounded by 12-14,000ft mountains, this town lives up to its claim as “the LAST great place.”
An aspect of the mission of Good Health is to provide the healing benefits of acupuncture and East Asian Medicine to more people than we could ever reach on our own, so, Good Health Colorado is dedicated to training up the next wave of practitioners (and doing it in a beautiful location). With the help of some friends we are able to give recent graduates opportunities that we never had!

Calligraphy
New Year festivities are still going strong! How are you celebrating?
Calligraphy is a popular way to spend time during lunar new year. The Chinese language is unique in that each character is pronounced with a single syllable when spoken, and can have many meanings when combined with other characters. There are many famous characters that represent aspects of Chinese culture and mindset. The most common word to commemorate the Lunar New Year celebrations is fú (福), pronounced Foo.
Why fú (福)? This character means “fortune” and wishing others good fortune is part of beginning the new year.
During Lunar New Year celebrations, it is commonly written upside down in reverence to the memory of an empress during the Ming dynasty. Her husband, the emperor, threatened to execute an illiterate family that had written the word upside down. Writing the word upside down would have caused everyone misfortune unless the family was punished. Thankfully, the quick thinking empress pointed out that 福 written upside down looks like 到 (dào) which means “to arrive”. The family were saved because they had inadvertently written the blessing “hoping good fortune arrives”

The world’s largest human migration
Being with loved ones during the Lunar New Year is the number one priority for Chinese families. As many working Chinese leave their villages in the countryside to work in the cities, this creates a once per year migration the size of which will boggle your mind. The migration back home and to go on vacation is called chunyun (春运), or Spring Migration.
One of the largest human migrations in the world is during the Thanksgiving break in the United States, about 50 million people return to their loved ones.
During the Spring Migration in China, 385 million individuals return to their hometowns. The tickets for trains to the countryside are only available 60 days prior to travel dates. This creates a rush of purchases during the 2 months prior to New Year that sees sales in the range of 1,000 tickets per second. PER SECOND!
Take some time this New Year to be with your loved ones and be thankful you don’t have to fight these types of crowds to do it!

新年快乐 (Xīn Nián Kuài Lè) Pronounced; Shin Knee-an Coo-eye Luh; means Happy New Year!
Welcome to the year of the Tiger. Chinese New Year celebrations last from the day after the first new moon of the year (February 1st this year) and culminates at the first full moon of the year based on the lunar calendar (February 16th this year).
Over the next couple of weeks we will be sharing some recipes, events, and general information about the biggest celebration on the lunar calendar
Did you know the Lunar New Year celebration is known to have repeatedly set the world record for most amount of fireworks ignited in a single night.
Why do revelers ignite fireworks?
There is a legend told about a monster named Nián, a horned beast who would emerge from the depths of the sea once a year to gorge on human flesh. One year a brave beggar, whose name has been lost to history, defeated the evil spirit by launching fireworks and hanging red paper on the doorways of the village buildings. The red color and loud noises scared Nián away. The beggar’s victory is celebrated with fireworks and red decorations to this day.

Each channel is an extension of an organ system, together they are referred to as the “conformation”
Within each conformation, the organ stores substance and creates potential energy, or, the potential for accomplishment. “The five organs preserve essence and thus rule destiny…”
The channel transports this substance and creates kinetic energy, allowing the organism to carry out its potential. “The channels irrigate and thus preserve life.”
We are all born with a certain level of potential, and to achieve this potential throughout life must maintain balance in our bodies. What do you do to maintain balance?

As the seasons change, so do our bodies. We adapt to the environment as we have since the beginning of time. As autumn approaches the air dries, humidity is lifted, and coolness begins its descent. Our bodies respond by moving yang (heat) inward. This leaves us susceptible to external invasion, thus we have “flu season”
Not feeling yourself lately? It might be time to call your acupuncturist.

“Hey this guy’s an acupuncturist, maybe he can do something…”
The Meridian Test is an acupuncture technique created by Dr. Mukaino Yosh*to for use in the treatment and care of high level athletes. Fortunately, it’s effective for the rest of us, too!
Here, Tim is stimulating an acupuncture channel that affects the lower back. This individual was not able to move beyond 15 degrees of forward flexion without pain in the lower back and could not compete in his game. After using the Meridian Test technique he was able to touch to the ground and compete with a 90% reduction in pain for the rest of the day.
Not bad for a spontaneous treatment…

East Asian Medicine - pursuing the balance between yin and yang.
As the autumn season approaches, the rising yang of summer begins to move inward to prepare for the deep storage of winter. This creates a weakness in the body’s ability to defend the exterior and our bodies become more susceptible to pathogenic attacks. This is why more people get sick in autumn (flu season).
“Fortify“ is specifically formulated to supplement your body’s ability to defend the exterior. This tincture is not only delicious 😋 but contains one of the most famous preventative herbal medicine formulas in the entire Materia Medica, Yù Píng Fēng Sǎn(玉屏风散).

The TEAM Story
TEAM Acupuncture began in 2013 as Trinity East Asian Medicine, Tim’s massage therapy and corrective exercise practice in San Diego, CA. The name Trinity was a reference to the way that medicine should be practiced in Mind, Body, and Spirit. These are the three distinct aspects of all human beings and are embodied in the Christian belief system as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The vision of TEAM has always been to create a worldwide network of patients and practitioners determined to make the world a better place through compassionate, sacrificial love for the world and its people. By joining the TEAM, you are conected to the many lives that have been made better through Love and the guiding principles of East Asian Medicine.
The TEAM Approach
TEAM is defined as: “a group of individuals working together to achieve a common goal”
The name and practice have both evolved so that TEAM not only reflects the personal and professional partnership of spreading Traditional East Asian Medicine to the world, but the word TEAM also emulates the values of cultivating lifelong partnerships with:
PATIENTS through education and prevention
patients’ FAMILY and FRIENDS who support them
the LOCAL and GLOBAL COMMUNITY through involvement and service
other Integrative Health Providers when necessary
Benefits to the TEAM Approach:
fosters connection and trust essential throughout the healing process
encourages active participation and ownership of one’s own health
provides collaborative and integrative healthcare
