The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in your child's body. It connects the calf muscles to the heel.
Achilles tendinitis is a very common problem with kids, especially those who are active. A bad case can be extraordinarily painful.
Causes: Overuse and repetitive stress, a sudden increase in activity levels, improper footwear, flat feet, and growth spurts.
Symptoms: Pain and tenderness in the back of the heel, especially after activities, swelling and stiffness, difficulty walking or running, or a popping sound when bending the ankle.
It's important that you see us if you child experiences any of these symptoms, as Achilles tendinitis left untreated can cause lasting damage to the tendon.
