Earlier this month, Jodie Thomas, our RN Supervisor for SMG Neurosurgery was promoted to Practice Manager. Jodie has been with our practice for just over two years and has excelled in every task given to her. Please join us in congratulating Jodie and welcoming her into her new role.

December has been a busy month for the UM SMG Neurosurgery team!

❄️The Neurosurgery office staff enjoyed a visit from a Snowman

❄️We participated in the Salvation Army’s Adopt-an-Angel program. In total, the team donated enough money to adopt six children this year!

❄️Members of the Neurosurgery team, and their families, volunteered for Wreaths Across America

❄️The Neurosurgery team enjoyed their annual holiday celebration

We would like to congratulate our Front Office Coordinator/ Medical Assistant, Taylor Ball, on being nominated for the 2024 Mid Shore Nursing Assistant Advisory Council's "CNA of the Year"!

Taylor was nominated by our RN Supervisor, Jodie Thomas, for her top-notch communication skills, professional behavior, and phenomenal patient care.

Monday 7/8/2024 the Surgeon General has called for a warning label to be placed on social media platforms. It is estimated that adolescents are on social media platforms nearly 5 hours per day. Research has shown that adolescents who spend more than 3 hours a day on social media have a twofold increased risk for mental health symptoms like anxiety, depression, poor body image, and bullying.

Consider daily timeouts from social media and placing phones out of reach at nighttime. This goes for adults too.

Enjoy the outdoors, try a new hobby, and engage face to face with friends and family. Your brain will be happy you did.

We highly encourage our patients to do core strengthening exercises, both before and after spine surgery, to improve posture, lower back pain, and reduce the risk of falls and/or injuries.
