🚨Measles Cases Confirmed in Prince George’s County – Check If You Were Exposed! 🚨

The Maryland Department of Health has confirmed two measles cases in Prince George’s County residents who recently traveled internationally. Health officials are working to identify potential exposures.

⚠️ Measles Symptoms (7-21 Days After Exposure):
-Fever (101°F or higher)
-Cough, runny nose, red/watery eyes
-Rash (Starts on the face, spreads to the body)

❗If you were in any of these places, monitor for symptoms for 21 days:
📍 Washington Dulles Airport (March 5)
📍 Kaiser Permanente Largo Medical Center (March 5-17, multiple dates)
📍 Reagan National Airport Shuttle (March 14)
📍 Metro Yellow & Silver Lines (March 14)
📍 Passport Toyota, Suitland (March 17)

🚨 If You Have Symptoms:
✅ Stay home and avoid public places.
✅ Call your doctor before visiting to prevent spreading.
✅ If exposed on March 15 or 17 and not immune, call your local health department or primary care physician for possible post-exposure treatment.

💉 Protect Yourself & Others!
The MMR vaccine is safe and very effective in preventing measles. Make sure you and your family are up to date, especially before traveling.

Today, we’re recognizing World Down Syndrome Day—a day to celebrate inclusion, advocate for equal opportunities, and promote health equity for individuals with Down syndrome. One simple way to show your support? Wear your most unique, colorful, or mismatched socks! Here are a few of ours.

This is part of the Lots of Socks campaign, which helps spark conversations about the importance of inclusion and accessibility in public health and developmental disability services. At the Talbot County Health Department, our Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) program works to connect individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including Down syndrome, to essential resources and support services.

As we work toward a healthier, more inclusive community, we encourage you to learn more about how our DDA program helps individuals and families access the care and support they deserve. Visit this link to learn more:

Today, the Talbot County Health Department hosted the Maryland Radiological/Nuclear Incident Discussion-Based Exercise, bringing together public health professionals, emergency responders, and partner agencies to strengthen our preparedness and response capabilities.

Through collaboration and scenario-based discussions, participants worked through strategies for protecting our community in the event of a radiological or nuclear incident. Training like this ensures we’re ready to coordinate resources, provide accurate public information, and support recovery efforts if the need ever arises.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and contributed their expertise!
