Niko worked extra hard over the summer with increased physical and speech therapy sessions and the progress shows.

Niko receives outpatient pediatric therapy to help overcome challenges related to his cerebral palsy. Lately, Niko’s been shining during his co-treatment sessions, where physical and speech therapy join forces. These sessions are like real-life obstacle courses for the brain and body, helping Niko work on things like divided attention and dual-tasking — all while having fun.

Whether he's sharing stories while walking on the treadmill or crushing it on the Interactive Metronome (think of it like a video game for your brain), Niko brings so much energy and joy to every session.

The best part? Niko recently took five to six steps all by himself before needing help from his therapy team — well done, Niko! 🙌

Thanks to all the community members who came out to the "Living in Place" screening event at Hyland Center. As we age, we all can experience changes in cognition, communication, strength, balance, vision and overall independence. To identify challenges and share information on how to address those challenges, our occupational, physical and speech therapy teams and in-house experts on assistive technology provided free screenings and education.

At Palmer Township, Justin Adadey works on high-intensity gait training with dual-tasking in the therapy gym, guided by Physical Therapist Bailey Brugler. Justin simulates talking on the phone, a task he may encounter in the community. His goal is to walk faster so he can engage in outdoor activities and sports with his brothers. Adding weights to the training enhances muscle strength, sequencing and overall community mobility for better carryover into daily life.
