Communication is more than speaking.

It can consist of gestures, pictures, facial expressions, devices, and more.

At Open Door Living Association and BELIEF Eclectic Learning, we recognize that every child communicates in their own way. By honoring and expanding those communication methods, we reduce frustration, build relationships, and give children the tools to make their voices heard.

Research consistently shows that early intervention leads to the best outcomes for children with autism.

Skills learned in early childhood; such as communication, self-regulation, and social interaction lay the foundation for lifelong growth.

ABA isn’t just about teaching academic or social skills, it’s also about building independence in everyday life.

Daily living skills like brushing teeth, dressing, or preparing a snack empower children to take ownership of their routines.

Research shows that fostering these skills early improves long-term independence and confidence.

Sensory regulation means helping children manage their responses to sounds, textures, lights, and other sensory input.

Many children with autism experience sensory differences. Some may be hypersensitive while others may seek extra stimulation. At Open Door Living Association and B.E.L.I.E.F. Eclectic Learning, we integrate sensory-friendly strategies like quiet spaces, weighted materials, or movement breaks to support learning.

When children’s sensory needs are respected, they are better able to focus, feel safe, and thrive.

Behavior always has context! It doesn’t just happen “out of nowhere.”

That’s why ABA uses ABC data:
Antecedent (what happened before), Behavior (what occurred), and Consequence (what happened after).

By tracking these patterns, we can identify why behaviors occur and how to support children more effectively. At B.E.L.I.E.F. , we train our staff to look deeper, beyond the surface, so every strategy is intentional, proactive, and meaningful.

True inclusion means more than just being in the same classroom!

It means creating an environment where children of all abilities can learn, participate, and belong. Studies have shown that inclusive classrooms benefit everyone: children with autism gain social and academic growth, and their peers develop empathy, acceptance, and leadership skills.

We advocate for and model inclusive practices because every child deserves to be seen, valued, and supported.

It's that time of year again! The leaves are changing color, the weather is cooling down, and the holidays are just around the corner. For many of us, these things can be enjoyable. But for those with ASD, they can be triggers for anxiety and sensory overload. As the seasons change, there are a variety of safety reminders to consider. Here are some tips to help manage ASD behaviors and symptoms during the fall season:

Familiarize
-Visit locations of events and homes of friends and family members in advance to familiarize your child with the surrounds.

Sensory-Friendly
-Create or seek out sensory-friendly spaces and activities.
-Be aware of triggering noises and smell

Flexibility
-Have a backup plan in case your child get overwhelmed or upset.
-Keep it short and sweet. Don't push your child or force uncomfortable situations.

Employment is one of the biggest challenges facing the autism community. Research shows that only about 14% of adults with autism are employed in community jobs. This gap isn’t because individuals lack potential, it’s because many workplaces aren’t prepared to provide the right supports or recognize the strengths autistic employees bring.

At Open Door Living Association, Inc. and B.E.L.I.E.F. Eclectic Learning, we believe preparing children and teens early with daily living, communication, and vocational skills can make a life-changing difference.

From building independence in small routines to teaching job readiness skills, we focus on helping each child move toward a future where they can thrive, contribute, and be valued.
