Orcas Medical Center

Orcas Medical Center Orcas Medical Center is a full-service, family medicine clinic of Island Hospital. Orcas Medical Center (OMC) is supported by Orcas Medical Foundation.

Medical Care for Your Entire Family
Because there is no hospital or emergency room on-island, a Medical Center physician is always available for urgent care. Equally important to islanders, the Medical Center is equipped and staffed to be your family’s primary healthcare resource year-round. We have two full-time physicians, a certified physician assistant, registered nurse, and health care assistant / X-ray technician. Our staff expertise in dermatology, children’s health, women’s health and many chronic illnesses, allows us to treat many conditions that used to require a trip to the mainland. Fifty-six years ago, our community got its medical care from just one physician. He visited the island once a week, weather permitting. Concerned residents raised enough money to buy a small piece of property and build the island’s first clinic, a building that is now the Lower Tavern. As our population grew, so did our healthcare needs. Years later, many of those same concerned residents, joined by hundreds more, raised enough to build our present Orcas Medical Center, which opened its doors in 1991 next door to Orcas Center. Like rural clinics across America, our Medical Center relies upon community support to make ends meet. We encourage you to become a patient, to join the OMC Foundation, and donate any amount you can to support medical care for everyone on Orcas Island.

Hello friends ,

It has been a busy week at Orcas Medical Center. This week at OMC, we saw 164 patients . Including 9 island visitors and 15 emergent and after hours visits. We welcomed 8 new patients to the practice.

I attended my first Orcas Medical Foundation meeting as the medical director of OMC . I gave an analysis of our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. We talked about a vision for the OMC and it is exciting! The goals of Orcas Medical Center staff are to be the best place on Orcas to have medical care and the best place to work.

There have been a couple of important announcements from cherished staff—Carol Boring RN and Jean Bried PA-C both officially announced their plans to retire before the end of 2014. This will be a big change for all of us and we are grateful for their many years of service to Orcas Island patients.

I’ll be on call this weekend and around OMC. We’ll hope for minimal injuries and accidents on our lovely island. I’ll also welcome home both my daughters from camp this weekend: Sofia from Girl Scout camp on the Olympic Peninsula and Anneke from sailing at Camp Orkila.

We adopted two hens and are starting to plan a garden bed…all on our quest to become official Orcas Islanders!

Wishing you a healthy week.

Camille

If you have an emergency, call 376 2331.

The Fire Department is working on getting manpower to each station as well.
