Two days ago, we had the humbling experience to host our first Hope Squad Conference to give back to middle and high school Hope Squad members. Hope Squad members support and encourage peers within their schools and communities through noticing when they are struggling, reaching out to talk and extend care, and help peers get additional support they may need. Squad members also focus on increasing connection and positivity within their schools through activities and interactions for all.

We had nearly 300 students and 40+ advisors, community members, and organization representatives attend the conference. The conference included several breakout sessions related to mental health supports, inspiring stories, and enhancing Hope Squad work, presence of organizations providing resources and encouragement, and activities for engagement and connection. This conference could not have occurred without all of the support we received from individuals within our community and surrounding communities who share our passion.

We want to thank Cargill for their generous donation from their Cargill Cares program to fund this conference. Thank you to Preble Shawnee Local School District for hosting the conference, providing us with the space, tech support, and cooking/serving lunch for everyone. Your generosity is so appreciated!!

Thank you to all of the presenters ~ American Legacy Theater for our kick off program, breakout session facilitators including Scott Osterfeld and Glenna Edwards from Miami University, Dawn Anderson-Butcher and Savannah Ballweg from OSU, NAMI, Miami Hope, ASPF, Harold Niehaus (PCESC), Preble Arts Director Claudia Hawkins, Dan Schmidt (BeTempered Podcast), Shawn Ruebush, Anne Romer, Preble County Hope Squad Advisors, Tori Combs (EHS), Kimberly Towe (GCS), and Joy Willenbrink from University of Dayton.

Thank you to all of the organizations that were a part of our "Connection Corner." We appreciate the resources, give aways, and support you all provided to the squad members and advisors. The work they do is so important and your support and encouragement makes an impression.

And a final and special thank you to my team - Your dedication, hardwork, and creative visions related to this event made it happen. I am so proud of all of you and so appreciative each and every day to know you, work with you, and call you my team.

With much appreciation and gratitude,
Michelle Gebhart
