Family Based Services Association of New Jersey FBSANJ is the peer support organization serving parents/caregivers in Monmouth County

The mission of Family Based Services Association of New Jersey (FBSANJ) is to support, educate and advocate on behalf of Monmouth County Families who have children with emotional, behavioral and mental health needs. As part of our mission, we also serve families who have children with co- occurring behavioral challenges and developmental delays and/or difficulties related to substance use. FBSANJ

is the Family Support Organization (FSO) of Monmouth County and is a system partner within the New Jersey Children’s System of Care (NJCSOC), which focuses on family strength and utilization of community resources. We are a family-led and community based agency whose mission is to provide support, education and advocacy to families and caregivers. During the course of the year, we run programs open to the entire community. Topics are suggested by caregivers and staff and are meant to enhance a family’s ability to tackle difficult issues surrounding the lives of our families. We are always interested in suggestions for future workshops & discussion groups, so please don’t hesitate to share your ideas!

*Support…
We support parents and caregivers. Our culturally competent family support partners have "walked the walk" of our families and are thus uniquely positioned to help each family understand and find hope in spite of their difficult situations. We help families identify goals and benchmarks that will lead to a better, more fulfilling life for their children and entire family. We can assist families at critical times such as making referrals to Perform Care to enter the Children's System of Care, crisis units at hospitals, and at school-based meetings.

*Educate…
We educate parents and caregivers regarding their rights and responsibilities as parents. Our staff mentors parents on the specific challenges their children and family are experiencing and helps them learn about options available in their local communities.

*Advocate…
We advocate on behalf of and for parents and caregivers. Our staff helps families practice the advocacy skills that will empower a family to identify the services they need to ensure healing and success. On a more global level, we encourage and provide opportunities to interested families to speak publicly about their journeys to various levels of elected officials, government agencies and local organizations, to advocate for their families and community.

On Friday, April 17th, we joined the Monmouth County Education Partnership (a subcommittee of CIACC) for a powerful conversation on strengthening relationships between families, schools, and students.

Thank you to Mary Fowler, CIACC Coordinator, and Nikkia Blair, Chair of the Education Partnership Committee, for bringing everyone together.

We’re proud to share that our very own Dawn Ellis, Family Support Partner, presented to school personnel — bringing the family perspective front and center.

Dawn shared her lived experience and spoke about how we support families behind the scenes — coaching, preparing, and helping parents feel confident when navigating school conversations.

This is what it’s all about — helping educators better understand the parent perspective so we can build stronger partnerships and better outcomes for our youth 💛

On Sunday, March 29th, we came together for something truly special 💛

A day where families were seen.
Where their stories were honored.
Where strength, resilience, and love filled the entire room.

There truly was not a dry eye in the house.

Watching our families stand in their truth… hearing their journeys… and seeing them surrounded by the people who walked beside them — that is what this work is all about.

This is the trickle-down effect of positivity.

When we lift up caregivers, we lift up children.
When we lift up children, we strengthen families.
And when we strengthen families, we strengthen our entire community.

To our families — we see you. We honor you. We celebrate you.
Your strength does not go unnoticed, and your journey matters more than words can express.

To those who walked beside them — thank you.
Because of you, our families were reminded of something so important…

They were never alone.

And to Team FBSA 💛
This event was a reflection of your relationships, your trust, and your heart.
This was just as much your celebration as it was theirs.

This was more than an event…
It was a reminder of hope.
