We're pedaling to a more connected Orlando as we begin construction on another leg of the Downtown Loop.
Construction began on a half mile section of the Downtown Gap Trail, adding a sidewalk-level two-way cycle track along the south side of Washington Street, stretching from Garland Avenue (check out the rendering) to Magnolia Avenue. The project is expected to take approximately eight months and includes at-grade railroad crossing improvements at the SunRail crossing to ensure a smoother, safer transition for riders.
The Downtown Gap Trail is one of the final pieces needed for the completion of the Downtown Loop. Once complete, the Loop will serve as the 8.5-mile car-free artery through the heart of the city, encompassing more than a dozen neighborhoods.
By directly linking the Orlando Urban Trail, Gertrude’s Walk, Lake Underhill Path, Bumby Path, and Cady Way Trail, the Loop is designed to create a unified network that makes it easier, and safer, to explore the best of Orlando by bike. Learn more about the project at orlando.gov/downtowngaptrail.
As we close the physical gaps in our trail system, we are also updating our vision for the future. Share your feedback through our Bike Plan Update survey at orlando.gov/bikeplan to help us define the next decade of safe, connected cycling in Orlando.
