Anxiety is our nervous system's attempt to protect us when it perceives danger. Our Brain doesn't know the difference between real or imagined, past, or present stress, especially if you've experienced trauma. Even when we ignore, belittle, or numb warning signs our system stays hypervigilant. It is always on and scanning for threats.
Depression is our nervous system exhausted, overwhelmed, and self-protecting to the point of shutdown. Anxiety ignored will often manifest as depression later.
Next time ANXIETY shows up ask yourself:
--What does my system perceive as a threat?
--How can I let my nervous system know I've received the message?
--What do I need to feel cared for right now?
Next time DEPRESSION hows up ask yourself?
--What's overwhelming right now?
--What's within my control and what's not?
--How can I rest and reset?
