What is male pelvic health physical therapy?

It focuses on the muscles and nerves in the pelvic area. These muscles play a role in bladder control, bowel function, sexual health, and core strength.

It's not just about strengthening. It's about how those muscles function together. They can be weak, tight, or uncoordinated.

A physical therapist trained in pelvic health looks at the full picture and helps restore normal function. Reach out if you have concerns or would like to see if pelvic health physical therapy is right for you!

What conditions can pelvic health physical therapy address?

Pelvic health physical therapy can play a role in managing a wide range of conditions. This includes pregnancy and postpartum recovery, urinary urgency and incontinence, bowel dysfunction, pelvic pain, and dyspareunia.

It may also be beneficial for individuals with diastasis recti, pelvic organ prolapse, or musculoskeletal pain involving the low back, hips, groin, or abdomen.

Care is individualized and often includes a combination of manual therapy, exercise, and Pilates-based movement to improve function. If you are unsure whether this applies to you, reach out to our team by heading to optimumtherapies.com.

📣 Hey men! 📣 May is Pelvic Health Awareness Month! But can physical therapists help men with pelvic health?

Yes! And most men have no idea this even exists.

Pelvic health physical therapy can help with things like bladder control, sexual function, pain, and core stability. These are real issues that affect daily life, but they are often ignored or brushed off.

A lot of men assume symptoms are just part of getting older or something they have to live with. That is not the case.

📞 If something feels off, give us a call at our Lake Hallie or Rice Lake clinics! Head to https://optimumtherapies.com/wisconsin/ to view those locations.

📢 May is Pelvic Health Awareness Month! 📢 But what is pelvic health and why does it matter?

Pelvic health refers to how the muscles, connective tissues, and nerves of the pelvic region function together to support bladder, bowel, and reproductive health, as well as core stability.

Dysfunction in this system can contribute to symptoms such as incontinence, pain, or pressure that impact daily life. These issues are common across both men and women, but they are often underreported and undertreated.

Our approach combines physical therapy with Pilates-based movement to address strength, coordination, and overall function. If you are experiencing symptoms or have questions, we encourage you to reach out!

📍 We offer pelvic health at our Rice Lake, Lake Hallie, and Mandan clinics. To reach out, head to optimumtherapies.com, and be sure to follow along as we share more on pelvic health this month!

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, chosen in recognition of James Parkinson, the physician who first described the condition.

It’s a time to bring more attention to how Parkinson’s affects movement, balance, and daily life, and to highlight the support that can help. Changes in movement are common, but they are not something you have to simply accept. Physical therapy can help address these changes and support staying active and independent over time.

We’ll be sharing more about Parkinson’s and how physical therapy can help throughout the month, so make sure you’re following us!

Many people are not aware that physical therapy can be an important part of managing Parkinson’s.

Rather than general exercise, therapy is focused on specific movement patterns to help improve walking, balance, and transitions like standing up or turning. This approach can help reduce fall risk and support long term independence.

If you’re curious and would like to learn more, reach out to one of our clinics!
