Teenagers in Need of Care – How Can You Help?

Wisconsin foster care agencies are in desperate need of foster care and respite care providers for teenagers. Does your family have a passion for teenagers or investing in the future adults of our communities? This call for help may be one that your family can answer.

Did you know, more than 23,000 children will age out of the U.S. Foster Care System by the end of this year? Aging out of foster care is a highly traumatizing and challenging experience. Here are some statistics to consider:

• By age 26, only 3-4% of youth who aged out of foster care will earn a college degree.
• 20% of these youth will become homeless after turning 18.
• 50% of youth who have aged out of foster care will obtain employment by age 24.
• More than 70% of female foster youth will become pregnant by age 21.
• 25% of former foster youth will experience PTSD.
• 50% of kids who aged out of foster care will develop a substance dependence.
• About 25% of kids who aged out of foster care will not graduate from high school or be able to pass their GED.
• Despite this, 70% of foster kids consistency say they would like to attend college one day.

Teenagers in the foster care system are at high risk of aging out of foster care due to limited resources and very few families being open to accepting teenagers into their homes. If your family has the desire to help change this narrative for a teenager in our community, please visit our website to learn more about opportunities to provide long-term or short-term care for a teenager. Fill out a contact form to get in touch with a member of our team, we would love to connect with you soon!

This month we celebrated Foster Care Appreciation Month!

Our foster families play a large role in supporting children in their care and families across the Chippewa Valley. Help us recognize and celebrate Children’s Foster Families, and foster families across Wisconsin, for the rest of the year. Please reach out to our office to learn where we need the most support for children in our communities.

We are humbled to be partners with county agencies, outpatient providers, local school districts, and the biological families of children in our care. We cannot wait to team with you all for the year ahead!

Please join us in congratulating Investigator Chaz Walton, who was recognized today at the Wisconsin Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Conference as the ICAC Investigator of the Year. This prestigious honor is very well deserved! Investigator Walton is incredibly dedicated and thorough as he works his way through these often difficult cases in an effort to protect the victims of these crimes and ensure the people who prey on children are arrested and prosecuted. Thank you for all you do, and congratulations Chaz!
