IN LOVING MEMORY

John Seay, aged 60, passed away on August 9, 2025 at his home in Kuttawa. Born on November 19, 1964 son of the late Jerry Mack Seay and Gayle Laverne Seay, a devoted father, a cherished grandfather, and a beloved brother.

Fishing and hunting were among John's favorite pastimes, activities that reflected his love for nature and the great outdoors. He was known for his creative solutions to everyday problems and the gentle guidance he offered to those around him. Above all, John's love for his family shone the brightest. He relished being a grandfather, cherishing moments spent with his grandchildren, Drake, River, Iva, and Oakleigh.

While his parents, Jerry Mack and Gayle Laverne Seay, his son Jerry Thomas Seay, his sister Donna McNeeley, and his brother Jerry Seay, predeceased him, John's legacy continues through his loving sons, John (Marley) Seay of Benton, KY and Josh (Lauren) Seay of Kuttawa, KY. His brother, Tommy (Debbie) Seay of Calvert City, KY, will fondly remember his unwavering support and the countless memories they shared.

John also leaves behind a tapestry of nieces, nephews, and friends who were all profoundly impacted by his heartwarming presence. He had a special way of making each person feel valued and loved, a testament to his innate kindness.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Lakeland Funeral Home and 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Lakeland Funeral Home.

IN LOVING MEMORY

Grace Evelyn Shelby McConnell, 96, of Kuttawa, KY passed away Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Charter Senior Living in Paducah, KY.

Grace was born on May 25, 1929, to the late Oakley and Iris Shelby in Marion, KY. She graduated from Marion High School in the Class of 1948. After which, she married the late William G. McConnell on June 18, 1948, in Marion and eventually moved to Kuttawa in 1953. They acquired the local pharmacy, and it became McConnell’s Drug Store. Grace was the drug store’s bookkeeper until the age of 85.

She was a member of Kuttawa United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years and served as a Sunday school teacher and church treasurer. Grace later became a member of Kuttawa Independent Church. She was an active member of several civic clubs.

Grace was known for her kindness and generosity throughout the community. She was sincerely loved by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Grace enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and crocheting for the Prayer Shaw Ministry at her church.
Grace loved her title as “Gagi,” given to her by her granddaughter, Rachel, and carried on by her precious great granddaughter, Ava.

She had such a positive and funny personality, even up until her passing. Grace will be remembered for her love, kindness, and care for all.

Grace is survived by her son, Tom McConnell of Kuttawa, KY; daughter, Carol Rogan (Michael) of Rogersville, TN; granddaughter, Rachel Rogers (Patton) of Knoxville, TN; and great granddaughter, Ava Rogers. She is also survived by nephews, John Shelby (Kristen) of St. George Island, FL, and James Shelby (Anne) of Frankfort, KY; niece, Deanna Phelps (Dick) of Bowleys Quarters, MD; nephew, Robert McClain of Vail, CO; and nephew, Richard Clement (Karen) of Cadiz, KY.

In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, William G. McConnell; sister, Louise McClain; brother, Ralph Shelby; and brother- and sister-in-law, Joe and Betty Clement.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Kuttawa Independent Church with Brother Jed Ramey and G.L. Ovey officiating, with a special message by Grace’s dear friend, Charlotte Sowards. The graveside service will follow at Kuttawa Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Kuttawa Independent Church, formerly Kuttawa United Methodist Church.

Perry Lee Stanley, age 73, of Kuttawa, KY, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025.

Perry was born on July 18, 1952, to the late Joseph and Lassie Lorene Perry Stanley. He was a graduate of Lyon County High School and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Lyon County, where he played the organ for many years. Perry was a retired insurance agent for American General Life. He enjoyed watching the University of Kentucky Basketball and spending time with his four-legged companion, Molly. He was a staple at the Calvert Cafe, where he visited almost every morning, and at Huck's in Kuttawa.

Survivors include his "adopted" Downing family of Mayfield, where he was a very loved friend and "G-Paw".

In addition to his parents, Perry is preceded in death by his brother, Joe Stanley.

No services are scheduled at this time.

Raymond E. Deason Jr., age 76, of Eddyville, KY, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, KY.

Raymond was born on November 25, 1948 in Elkton, KY to the late Raymond Sr. and Mable Latham Deason. Raymond found his calling in the service of the Lord. He dedicated his life to serving as a United Methodist Minister, earning the respect and admiration of congregations at Bethel and O'roark United Methodist in Russellville, KY, Leigh Chapel, and Peolia in Albany, KY. His ministry extended to Rosewood, Myers Chapel, and Jernigan's Chapel in Muhlenberg County, KY, and he nurtured faith communities at Glenns Chapel and Chestnut Oak in Eddyville, KY. Raymond's compassionate leadership and steadfast devotion culminated at Salem United Methodist in Salem and Providence United Methodist in Elkton, KY, where his guidance was a beacon of light for many.

Raymond's love for music was a cornerstone of his life. He found enjoyment and praise in the words of Southern Gospel Music. His entrepreneurial spirit shone through in his personal venture, a construction business where he found joy in building and remodeling homes. His skilled hands not only built structures but also forged lasting bonds in the community. Raymond was as comfortable holding a fishing pole as he was a hammer, or hymnal all while singing praise to his Lord.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Thalia McCormick Deason; daughters, Angie (Pat) Gibbs, Bobbie Chewning, Randa (Chris) Putnam, Rachelle (Steve) Boggess, Julie (Lee) Jenkins, Tonia Cardwell; sons, Ray (Melinda) Deason, Anthony (Cory) Deason, Michael Gibbs, Darrell (Rebecca) Wheeler, Justin (Tara) Cardwell and Heath (Dawn) Cardwell ; sisters, Wanda Gilkey, Mary Ackerknecht, Janice Deason; brother, Arvil Ray Deason; 38 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Raymond is preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Loving; three sisters; and six brothers.

Visitation for Raymond will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville.

Willard "Wayne" Henderson, 80, of Eddyville, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.

He was born on June 14, 1945, in Lyon County to his late parents, Henry Willard Henderson and Anne P'Pool Gray. Wayne's career in manufacturing management began at Arvin Industries in Princeton, where he devoted over 25 years of service. His professional path led him to Superior Fireplace in Union City, Tennessee, and ultimately to CC Metals and Alloys in Calvert City while also owning M W Wholesale, a vending business he operated and privately contracted with the state at the West Kentucky Correctional Complex.

Wayne had a magnetic spirit whose warmth and kindness drew others to him wherever he went. He was a faithful member of his church, Bible Missionary Baptist Church. He poured his heart into serving others-especially young people, whom he mentored with generosity, wisdom, and unwavering support. His selfless spirit left a lasting impact on everyone around him.

Wayne's community engagement was evident through his active involvement as a former City Councilman in Eddyville and brief tenure as Eddyville Mayor Pro Tem. Beyond his professional life and civic duties, Wayne was a fervent fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball team. He also enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden.

He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Bart) Griffith of Eddyville; brother, Mike Henderson of Eddyville; grandson, Zack (Ava) Griffith of Clarksville; great-granddaughter, Willow Morgan-Griffith; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann Fowler Henderson; son, Michael Wayne Henderson; sister, Betty Lou Henderson; brother, Bill Henderson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Lakeland Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Taylor and Bro. Don Houston officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Spring Church Cemetery in Caldwell County.

Kena Dannette Hook, passed away at the age of 50 on June 8, 2025, in Eddyville, KY.

She was born on October 26, 1974, in Tell City, Indiana to the late Thomas Roy Hook and Shelia Kay Wilson Hook. Kena worked as a waitress all her life. Her job cultivated her enjoyment of being around people and an appreciation of good food. When not working, Kena loved being around the water and was at home on the beach or at the lake. Also she enjoyed skating, spending quality time with family, friends and dancing to good music. She also loved the company of her beloved dog, Marley.

Survivors include brothers Tony (Clara) Hook of Owensboro, KY and Gary (Jessi) Hook of Nashville TN; aunts, Nita Nix, Francie Watts, Carrie Belle Hook, Becky Hook, Jean Hook; uncles, Ron Yates, Eugene Hook, Eddie Hook; nephews, Jacob Hook, Quest Hook, Benjamin Hook.

In addition to her parents, Kena is preceded in death by her nephew, Tyler Hook.

Carolyn Ann Beck Sutton, 84, of Lyon County, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at River's Bend Retirement Community.

She was born on December 28, 1940, to her late parents, Elbert Beck and Kathryn Wilson Beck. She was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to church, reading her Bible and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed the monthly luncheons to local restaurants with her 1959 Lyon County classmates. Carolyn never missed a game that her children or grandchildren were playing, regardless of the games location. Her most cherished title was "Gran Gran" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She worked at Beckett's Plumbing as well as Lyon County Schools as a substitute teacher and as an instructional assistant.

Carolyn is survived by her husband Thomas Leon Sutton of 61 years; two sons, Quin (Amye) Sutton and Brian Sutton, both of Eddyville; one grandson, Warron (Colie) Sutton of Eddyville; two granddaughters, Auburn (Jeremy) Wheeler of Mattoon and Taylyn (Mason) Williams of Eddyville; six great-grandchildren, Maelynn Puckett, C**t Boone Sutton, Beck Sutton, Cash Sutton, Maci Williams and Mary Grace Williams. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Beck and Bobby Beck.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Lakeland Funeral Home with Bro. Jay Brown officiating. Burial will follow in New Bethel Cemetery in Lyon County.

IN LOVING MEMORY

Ronald Douglas Sexton, 81, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at his home in Henderson, Nevada.

Born on September 6, 1943, in Kuttawa, Kentucky, he spent his formative years in Detroit after his family relocated there when he was just eleven years of age. His deep sense of duty and love for his country was evident from a young age, leading him to serve in the United States Army with his parents' blessing at the age of 17. He held a post in Germany for three years, and upon his return, continued to serve as part of the United States Army Reserves.

His commitment to public service extended to a notable career spanning over 32 years as a police officer for the city of Detroit. In the early '70s, he became a union president, negotiating fervently and fairly on behalf of his fellow officers. Ron carried the same passion into his retirement, which he enjoyed in Las Vegas, a city he and his wife loved and frequented while making memories together.

Ron was also an active Freemason, previously serving as a master of Center Line Masonic Lodge in Michigan, and he took great pride in his affiliation with the Moslem Temple as a shriner. He always sought ways to connect with his community, one of which was by contributing his insights and leadership as a board member for the Spirit of Detroit Association, hydroplane racing organization.

A collector at heart, Ron found joy in the pursuit of new additions to his assorted compilations of coins, watches-including a noteworthy assortment of pocket watches-and sunglasses, each collection a reflection of his diverse interests and appreciation for history and craftsmanship.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Mary Tomassini Sexton; daughter, Sherri Warner of Michigan; two sons, Ronald E. (Cherie) Sexton of Hazel Park, Michigan, Ryan (Michelle) Sexton of Almont, Michigan; three grandchildren, Lisa Marie Warner, Alexis Kolbe and Charles Sexton; several nieces and nephews; two fur babies, Charles and Alice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Rena McQuigg Sexton; four brothers, James "Sonny" Sexton, Robert Sexton, Russell Sexton, Jerry Sexton.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m. (CST) on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville, Kentucky, with Bro. Jed Ramey officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery in Lyon County.

Robert "Bob" Lee Sullivan, age 69, of Kuttawa and formerly of Troy, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at his home.

Bob was a man you would want in your corner. He was a kind, gentle person with the most infectious smile. He loved to talk to everyone and made a lasting impact on everyone he crossed paths with.

Born and raised in Kentucky, Bob moved to Granite City, Illinois at the age of 18 to pursue a career. He worked 20+ years at McKinley Iron as a steel worker. In 2000 he transitioned to Granite City Steel where he started as a steel worker. Bob then would further his education and earn his Millwright Degree. He worked as a millwright for Granite City Steel, making lifelong friendships with coworkers, until his retirement at 65. He always said he would retire and move back to Kentucky, and that’s exactly what he did.

Bob enjoyed fishing, driving fast in his bass boat across the lake, tinkering in his garage, taking golf carts rides and walking his beloved dogs around the neighborhood. He loved to garden, riding his motorcycle and anything sweet. Bob, love cakes, cookies, and candy but most of all he loved being with his wife and family. Bob will be missed dearly. He is and was loved by many especially his family. It is not goodbye but it see you later. Rest in peace. We all love you.

Brenda Vinson Bugg, age 84, of Fredonia, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025 Princeton Nursing and Rehabilitation.

She was born on August 13, 1940 in Princeton, Kentucky to her late parents, Arlie Vinson and Lucille Vinson. She was a member of Fredonia Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed church, work and loving on her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She started her career at Pillsbury Metallurgical in Calvert City. She worked many years for Fredonia Valley Quarries as a bookkeeper.

Brenda is survived by her daughter, Kelly Walker of Fredonia; son, Brent (Chris) Bugg of Eddyville; four grandsons, Daniel (Ashley) Bugg, Alex Bugg, Ramsey (Jen) Walker, and Jack (Sophia) Walker; five great-grandchildren, Tucker Bugg, Grant Bugg, Arlie Bugg, Cam Walker and Sloane Walker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tucker Bugg; brother, Charles Thomas Vinson.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Lakeland Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Louder officiating and Bro. Mark Bell assisting. Burial will follow in Fredonia Cemetery.
