May is Celiac’s Awareness Month. What is Celiac’s Disease? … Every year on September 13, National Celiac Disease Awareness Day encourages us to support those with the autoimmune disease affecting 3 million people. it’s a disease in which the small intestine is hypersensitive to gluten, leading to difficulty in digesting food. Celiac disease is a serious autoimmune disease that occurs in genetically predisposed people where the ingestion of gluten leads to damage in the small intestine. It is estimated to affect 1 in 100 people worldwide, but only about 30% are properly diagnosed. Having Celiac disease doesn’t define who I am it’s just something that I have that I have to live with my whole life.
