I wrapped up my Capstone this week, and spent the past few months serving as a student Circulating Nurse — an experience beyond anything I could have imagined for my senior clinical.

After almost three years of struggling, stressing, and sacrificing sleep, I finally found something I truly love. Being placed in the OR felt like a gift from the gods.

Working with the team at the Day Surgery Center strengthened my commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care. Having the privilege of advocating for people during one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives was something that made those 4 AM alarms feel easy. Since September, I’ve shown up twice a week with excitement — and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to my incredible preceptor, , for everything you taught me and for welcoming me into your DSC family. I hope to make you proud as a Circulating Nurse soon.

This morning, while walking the dogs on trail near my house, I thought about and wondered what our society/culture would be if we respected those that walked, lived, and died on the land before us. And then I thought how all the paperwork in the world cannot change the fact that the house I live in sits on land that doesn’t belong to me. Then tonight I was taken aback by this beauty and thought I hope I am a good steward of the land, and that I never take my privilege for granted.
