"It felt like a miracle." ✨

At 56, Mwanza has regained his hearing after seven years of silence. His hearing loss began in primary school and by 49, he had completely lost it — forcing him to lose his job as a timekeeper and face daily struggles.

A chance meeting led him to our team, who fit him with new hearing aids and reconnected him with the world.

Today, Mwanza can hear again — his gratitude and perseverance remind us why we do what we do: restoring not just sound, but dignity, hope and connection.

Born and raised in El Salvador, Dr. Carla Elisa Rodriguez De Rondeau dreamed of becoming her country's first audiologist. After opening her own clinic, she quickly realized that too many people couldn't afford proper hearing care.

In 1997, she met our founder, Bill Austin, and thus became our inaugural mission serving the people in El Salvador — sparking a decades-long relationship to bring hearing care to thousands.

Now serving as our Clinical Director at Starkey Hearing Institute El Salvador, Carla has helped open our third institute worldwide in her home country.

We're deeply grateful for Carla's dedication, advocacy and heart as she continues to advance our mission: 𝗦𝗼 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿.

Latin America holds a special place in our hearts and our history. El Salvador was the location of our first international mission in 1997. 🤗🇸🇻

As we've continued our mission and expanded our efforts over the years, we're excited to welcome our first-ever Starkey Hearing Institute class of hearing health care professionals in El Salvador!

Our partner, Universidad Dr. José Matías Delgado, will help guide our class of 30 students through their four-month program, learning the WFA Model with hands-on and virtual learning.

Our team can't wait to see the lasting impact these students will make across Latin America.
