Howard Edward Loveless

Howard Edward Loveless, a member of an old-time pioneer ranch family in southeastern Concho County, quietly departed to his heavenly home on November 24, 2025. Howard was born in Brady, McCulloch County, Texas, on December 27, 1936. He was the son of Will Loveless and Grace Ophelia (Pearson) Loveless. He was the fifth child of six children. He was reared in Concho County, Texas.

Howard graduated from Eden High School in 1955 where he was president of his senior class. He became a member of Eden First Baptist Church in 1946. Howard and his brother, Will Ray, took an interest in cattle in grade school, and at the age of 12, he exhibited his first 4-H club steer under the direction of Mr. Ed Whitesides who was the Concho County Extension Agent at that time.

Howard is a graduate of San Angelo Junior College, Class of 1957, with an Applied Arts degree. While attending “SAC,” he was a member of the Concho Aggies, was a member of a winning livestock judging team traveling to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1957, and was a student council representative.

On his birthday on December 27, 1958, he took his high school sweetheart, Margaret Rose Jesse, to be his bride. They have been married for 67 years.

In 1960, Howard received his B.A. degree with a major in Finance from Texas Technological College in Lubbock, Texas. While at Tech, Howard was a charter member of Phi Alpha Kappa finance honorary fraternity.

Howard spent six months active duty with the U.S. Army in 1959 in Fort Hood, Texas and Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. He then spent five and one-half years with the National Guard of Texas in a rifle company in the 36th Infantry Division.

In 1960, following graduation from Tech, Howard returned to Eden to join his father in the ranching business. His father passed away in 1962, and Howard continued ranching with the estate until 1969 when he began his own independent ranching operation.

During his years in ranching and business, Howard served on various boards and committees including the Concho County Community ASC Committee, Concho County Board of Equalization, Concho Central Appraisal District Board, and trustee on the Eden ISD School Board. In 1964, Howard became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Eden where he held various offices in Aid Association for Lutherans Branch 1648. He also served on the board of the Eden Youth Center and the Barrow Museum in Eola, Texas.

In 1975, a board was established for the Loveless Cemetery of which Howard was a member and subsequently President.

In 1978, Howard was appointed by Gov. Dolph Briscoe to serve on the Lower Concho River Water and Soil Conservation Authority. Also in that year, he served as Concho County Clements for Governor Campaign Chairman. In 1979, he served as Concho County Finance Chairman for Gov. Clements. He was a member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association and the Texas Farm Bureau, and he served on the board of the Concho County Farm Bureau.

Howard considered himself one of the most fortunate people on earth because he could work at a job he loved. He raised Angus cattle, Rambouillet sheep, Angora goats, and later, Spanish/Boer cross goats. He loved his livestock and took care of each one as his own child. He was a true conservationist in his belief and in his ranching interests. He respected the land and its resources and greatly loved live oak trees. He did not take his blessings for granted.

Howard was very generous in caring for his family of four. In the summer of 1992, the family toured Europe by car visiting points of interest in France, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. Also, London, England and surrounding areas including South Wales, Great Britain.

Howard is survived by his wife, Margaret Rose (Jesse) Loveless, of Eden; his son, David Conn Loveless, of Bountiful, Utah; his daughter, Karen Rose Loveless, of Eden; one grandson, David’s son Dawson Conn Loveless and wife Destiny, of Knoxville, Tennessee; four sisters: Mrs. Glenda Leifeste, of Eden; Mrs. Mary Grace Patton, of Kerrville, Texas; Mrs. Carolyn Moody, of Eden; and Miss Ana Frances Loveless, of Eden; as well as 16 nieces and 14 nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Will and Grace Ophelia (Pearson) Loveless; his brother and sister-in-law, Will Ray and Cecilia Loveless; and three brothers-in-law: Bill Leifeste, Ronald A. Patton, and Wendell Moody.

After Howard became aware of his diagnosis, as a way of saying good-bye, he made a list of names of his special friends. If he missed your name and you have fond memories, consider your name among those listed. You know who you are.

Martha Escamilla Torres, aged 77 and longtime resident of Menard, TX, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 of advanced cancer at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo, TX.

Martha was born on September 28, 1947 at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo to Carmen and Jesse Escamilla.

Martha was raised in Melvin, TX and parts of Concho County when she was young. Her fondest memories of childhood were fishing in the creeks with her family as a young girl, seeing her mother and grandmother cook, and watching her Dad play baseball. Martha enjoyed playing softball then, as well.

Martha met the love of her life, Senon Torres, in Eola, TX, while working in the fields nearby with her family around 1961. Senon was drafted in the US Army in November of 1963 and sent to Fort Carson, CO. Martha and Senon were later married in Concho County, TX in September of 1964. Martha moved to Fort Carson, CO where Senon was stationed. Martha enjoyed walking Colorado Springs, CO in skirts and high heels, from one side of town to the other. Martha gave birth to their first child, Larry in August 1965 in Fort Carson.

Then Martha's small family moved to Eola, Texas after Senon finished his military duty. There they mourned the death of their son, Larry, in January of 1966. Later, Martha and Senon would rejoice in the birth of their children, Mary and Marty.

Martha and her family moved again to Menard, TX in 1969 to help her health improve. For a time, Martha had a job operating the elevator at the Menard Hospital in Menard. Soon after, Alicia and Jeannette were born, and then Martha's family was complete. Martha was, from then on, a housewife.

Martha will be remembered for her fondness of walking, road trips, trains, music, singing, movies, reading novels, good food, fish on Fridays, and cooking. Martha made some of the best fried chicken, pecan pie, and other meals that many people have ever had. She loved getting phone calls, flowers, pictures, cards, and letters from everyone she knew. Martha always cheered on her family and told them to keep chasing their dreams.

But most of all, Martha always prayed the rosary for everyone she cared about. She was fiercely loyal to those she loved. Martha had a steadfast, fighting spirit. She was the strongest willed person we ever knew, and in the end, Martha never lost her faith or her will to live.

It was a true blessing that throughout her recent illness, Martha never felt any pain. We are comforted in that thought. As Martha would have said to anyone while parting, "No goodbyes. Say, ‘See you later.’" We will never forget you or your courage, Martha. You will always be with us in our hearts. We will always love you. “See you later.”

Martha is survived by her loving husband of nearly 61 years, Senon Torres of Menard; her children (Mary Fuentes and Marty Torres of Menard, and Jeannette Hiteshew of Austin), her grandchildren (Jonathon Marin of San Angelo, Erin Hiteshew [husband Adam Kranz] of Austin, Morgan Hiteshew of Austin, and Jacqueline Mastroianni [husband Brenden Pando] of Colorado Springs, CO), her siblings (Mary Jane, Elizabeth, Esther, Johnny, Lupe, and Gilbert), along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Martha was preceded in death by her children (Larry and Alicia Torres), her parents (Jesus Escamilla, Jr. and Carmen Alexander), and her siblings (Josie, Joe, and Linda).

Martha's immediate family would like to thank all of those who have shown love and support for her family during this sad time. They are so grateful for the outpouring of kindness. Many blessings to you all.

The funeral services for Martha Escamilla Torres will be as follows:

The viewing will start at 12:00 p.m., followed by the rosary at 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at Eden Funeral Home in Eden, TX.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 8, 2025 at St. Philip Benizi Mission in Eola, TX. The burial will follow in Eola & Mereta Cemetery.

Flowers may be sent to Harper Funeral Home, 2606 Southland Boulevard, San Angelo, TX 76904 by Saturday, September 6, 2025 before noon (12 p.m.) in order to have them transported to Eden, TX in time for the viewing. Their number is 325-340-1850.

Carolyn was born August 13th, 1953, in Sonora, Texas. Her parents Raymond Gerald and Mary Ann Prosise then relocated the family to Eden, Texas where Carolyn and her 4 siblings grew up. Carolyn attended Eden High School where she was a cheerleader and was voted most popular. Carolyn had many roles in life, but her favorite was being a grandmother which led her to move to Mertzon, Texas so she could be closer to her two granddaughters Carlee and Abigail. One of her favorite things to do during her time off was travel and see her grandson Elam in San Antonio. Carolyn’s deep love for children also inspired her to open her own in-home daycare where she treated other’s children like her own. She also served the Irion County Community by dispatching before moving back to Eden to take care of her father while also returning as a dispatcher for Concho County, until she retired in 2018 after 21 years of service. Carolyn’s most known attributes of compassion, love, understanding and patience were reflected in her many roles in life.

Carolyn enjoyed many things in life including cooking for her family, Sister Sundays with Brenda, traveling with her children and grandchildren, and most of all spending time with her loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother Alma Lumbley, parents Gerald and Mary Prosise and her brother Eddie Prosise. She is survived by her daughter Michele, son Donnie (Tiffany). Grandchildren Carlee, Abigail (Trevin), and Elam. Brothers Ron (Carmen) and Jerry (Vickey) and sisters Brenda (Carlton) and Jan (Larry).
