We are of Dana Byrum, vice president of Patient Care Services at ECU Health Bertie Hospital and ECU Health Chowan Hospital, and Christina Miller, vice president of Nursing Strategic Operations, for recently being accepted into the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) Nurse Executive Fellowship.

This is a prestigious and selective year-long program for nurses who are new to an executive or senior leadership role. This is the first time any ECU Health team member has represented the system as an AONL Fellow and they join a group of only 25 leaders from across the country.

Please join us in congratulating them on this incredible accomplishment. To learn more, visit: https://go.ecuhealth.org/4pxE5iC

Welcome Baby Kyzier!

Born at 12:43 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2026, at ECU Health Chowan Hospital, Kyzier is our first baby of the new year! He weighed 6 pounds, 2.5 ounces and measured 19.5 inches long. Proud parents Arianna Brown and Jamari Brockers received the traditional “Baby of the New Year” basket, a cherished tradition at ECU Health Chowan Hospital.

We extend a heartfelt thanks to the Edenton merchants who generously donated items for the basket, as well as the Perfect Prescription Gift Shop and the Birthing Center team for their contributions. Your support helps make this celebration special for our newest family.

As we wrap up 2025, we're excited to highlight the incredible accomplishments ECU Health celebrated this year.

We earned national recognition for quality, including five-star CMS ratings for Duplin and Bertie Hospitals, top cardiac surgery rankings for the East Carolina Heart Institute and continued honors from the Get With The Guidelines® program. We also launched pediatric robotic surgery and telecardiology in Edenton, introduced the region’s first Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation program and expanded the Pediatric Asthma Program into rural schools and opened the IMPACT Clinic for perinatal substance use care.

As we look to 2026, we remain grateful for the opportunity to serve and improve the health and well-being of eastern North Carolina.

We are to celebrate Taylor Lewis, MSN, RN, CNOR — honored with a Catalyst Award in the Frontline Nurse Leader Labs for leading a project that streamlined first-case on-time starts in operating rooms. By setting clear expectations, sharing data and fostering teamwork, Taylor helped reduce delays and boost efficiency — making surgical days smoother for patients and team members.

Join us in congratulating Taylor for this incredible achievement and her impact on surgical care!
