Cold and flu season doesn’t just affect your immune system, it affects your gut too.
Between getting sick, taking antibiotics, eating less (or very differently), and pushing through when you’re run down, digestion often takes a hit in January. And for many people, symptoms don’t magically resolve once the illness passes.
A few small habits that can make a real difference during recovery:
• Choose cooked vegetables over raw while your gut is healing
• Add fermented foods in *small* amounts (more isn’t better here)
• Pair protein with carbs instead of eating salads alone
• Use a quality probiotic after antibiotics to help restore balance
• Consider testing if digestive symptoms linger beyond 4–6 weeks
I remind patients that recovery doesn’t necessarily end when the illness does…you still need to support your body afterwards.
If bloating, reflux, irregular stools, or food sensitivity stick around, that’s your body asking for support…not something to ignore or push through.
