Protecting Your Skin in Colorado's "Winter" Weather

Colorado’s "warm but windy" winter days are deceptive. The combination of high altitude, low humidity, and wind can strip moisture faster than a typical cold day.

TLDR - Regularly clean, hydrate and SPF

Here are a few tips to protect your skin from damage:

Basic steps for a good newsletter

1. The "Sweater & Windbreaker" Method
Layering isn't just for clothes; it's essential for skincare in dry climates.

The Sweater (Hydration): Apply a water-based hyaluronic acid serum to damp skin to pull moisture in.

The Windbreaker (Protection): Lock it in with a thick, ceramide-rich cream or an ointment. This creates a physical barrier against the drying wind.

2. Guard Against "Windburn" (Which is often Sunburn)
The sun is the primary culprit behind what people call "windburn."

SPF is Mandatory: Even on warm, windy days, the UV rays at Colorado's altitude are intense. Suggest a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen with at least SPF 30.

Physical Shields: Recommend neck gaiters or silk scarves to physically block the wind from hitting the face.

3. Humidity Management
Sleep with a Humidifier: Aim for 40-60% humidity in the bedroom to prevent overnight dehydration.

Shorten Your Showers: While warm weather makes hot showers tempting, excessive heat strips natural oils. Stick to lukewarm water and moisturize within three minutes of stepping out.

4. Don't Forget the Details
Lip Care: Use a petroleum-based lip balm with SPF to prevent painful cracking.

Internal Hydration: Colorado's dry air pulls moisture from the body constantly. Drinking eight glasses of water a day is the baseline; more is better when it's windy.
