Most of us would like to avoid pain if possible, no? We may even fear pain, I have been guilty of that... But where would we be without it?

There is a reason. Don't ignore it. Make positive changes sooner rather than later.

Psalm 139:14 - I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made...

I've officially been a mom for a month now and still can't help but stare at this baby in amazement. (I am also jealous of her perfect alignment!)  The human body is so beautifully, intricately, and perfectly designed. We don't lose our wonder as we age either - my body grew her, gave birth to her, and is now keeping her alive 🤯

All of the systems of our body work as a whole to keep us functioning optimally. One part does not work without the other, including our mind and spirit. We have mechanisms to heal ourselves,  we just have to listen.

I signed up for my first 10k! I have been wanting to do this race mostly because, how cool would it be to see the views from the bridge 🛳️ on foot, but also to have a goal to train for. It seems like there is an endless list of diagnoses given to common symptoms of pain. It also seems like once your pain is labeled with one of these, the symptoms get 10x worse and any hope of healing you had disappears because now you "know what you have."

If you are like me, you are not satisfied with someone telling you that something is "weak" and that is why you have pain... Or there is inflammation so you just have to stop running. But WHY??? 🤷 I was lucky enough to find a posture therapist who enlightened me to what no other professional I had seen up to that point mentioned ANYTHING about. That was something I could believe.

It is always wise to check with a medical professional to make sure nothing serious is wrong but at the end of the day YOU KNOW YOUR BODY BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE. Think about WHY you may have the pain you are dealing with. You are not broken and your body wants to heal itself and is very capable of doing so.

Our bodies are made to be able to fall and take a hit WITHOUT suffering injury! (With exceptions of course.)

We are more vulnerable when we have a dysfunction (such as an elevated shoulder or hip, forward head, anterior or posteriorly tilted hips, internal or external feet...) Your body may be good a hiding it but a fall could be what calls it to your attention.

Preventative treatment is one of the best things we can do for our bodies when we do not currently have injuries. Posture alignment therapy can first of all make you aware of vulnerabilities and second, can correct them so you can continue doing the activities you love.

Don't forget about ABDOMINAL TRIGGER POINTS. Many of us focus on strengthening the abs but forget that they may be holding tension and referring pain to other areas. Commonly, I find clients who suffer with back pain have abdominal trigger points and diaphragm tightness!

YOU ARE NOT BROKEN.

Is pain really a BAD thing??

Here's what I see: we have muscle and joint pain, we ignore it. It goes away then comes back. So we cover it up. Over and over again. It works for a little while then comes roaring back. Now we think we are dying because the pain is so severe and go see a doctor who gives us this dreadful diagnosis and says "there's nothing you can do about it." Now we think we are a lost cause. SOUND FAMILIAR?

In a post by with the Egoscue Method (the method I am certified in) he explains how our symptoms are what actually save us. I agree with him that it is frustrating to hear people say "I'm falling apart" or "it's because of this" or "just wait til you get older, it will happen to you too." I already went through it.. when I was 18! And now it's gone. And I work almost everyday to keep it from ever coming back. So why am I any different than you?

There IS hope. Posture alignment therapy can help. Even if it is not your "cure-all," it will most likely be a valuable part of your journey in discovering where your pain is coming from.

Heal pain with a whole-body approach

Many times, one will experience pain and focus only on that specific area. At True Muscle Solutions, my mission is to find out what may be causing the pain to begin with, and help clients progress out of it via a global approach. Techniques include posture alignment therapy, neurokinetic therapy, and massage therapy. A huge piece of my business is to educate how to reduce and eliminate symptoms as well as prevent it from coming back. This empowers those willing to put in the effort to have control over how their body heals.
