Homemade and Healthy

It all started with my sister Annie @Diaitanutrition and my son Owen. My sister recently became a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP) and she informed me of the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to food and nutrition. I’ve always considered myself to be a healthy person. I exercise, I care about the food I consume and most importantly, I care about the food I feed my family, The reality - I was just falling into the common consumer trap of just looking for “organic” “all natural” & “sugar free.” Well thanks to Annie, now I know there are all kinds of hidden ingredients in my healthy food choices. The refined sugars, hydrogenated oils, highly processed ingredients, and chemicals were all in the good stuff I thought I was eating– just read the labels and do some googling and you will see for yourself. The more my sister shared, the more freaked out I started to get about the food that not only I was eating, but feeding my 1.5 yo. So, I started making everything from scratch... it was surprisingly much easier than searching for high quality foods in the stores, and yes, even heath food stores.

My entrepreneurial journey with Morning Routine started when I realized our local farmer’s market only cost $25 to have a booth for the whole season– this is hard to find in Denver. It gave me the opportunity to take a risk and start something that I was passionate about– providing nutritional food choices for the community. My recent concoctions at home had been granola and raw/power bites. My son and husband couldn’t get enough of them, so I figured this would be a great start to offer my community.

My sister and I came up with the list of ingredients to use... organic, raw, nutrient dense foods, and of course avoiding all the bad stuff. I had fun playing around with recipes to find the right combos. I then started soaking the nuts to help with better digestion and switched to gluten-free oats. I introduced a PALEO granola (w/o any oats) and used carob powder instead of cacao in my kid friendly options, it has more nutrients and no caffeine. Don’t worry the Chocolate + Coffee and Chocolate + Mint Power Bites still use cacao, but my Chocolate Brownie Power Bites and Chocolate + Cherry Granola use carob for the kiddos. We have finally nailed down the core recipes and are excited to play around and introduce more flavors in the future.
