Let’s keep it simple…

1. Eat enough: the average woman needs at LEAST 2300 calories a day to ovulate, have a healthy cycle and to overall feel good!

2. All the healthy fats: like at least 6 servings a day. Our hormones love them and it’s important for baby making.

3. Don’t eliminate or try to eat perfect: this causes more stress and anxiety than it is helpful, trust me on this.

4. Eating warming foods: cooking foods like soup, stews, stir fry and steaming can aid in digestion and warm the uterus.

Simple. Take note there is no restriction or shaming because who needs that especially when trying for a baby!

Happy Monday, if you need some love keep reading! If you know me, you know I'm not an athlete. I love moving my body and nourishing it but I'm all for relaxing and indulging. Too often I hear patients stressing about "cheat" foods or over indulging or not working out, this will happen...enjoy it!

Lately I've been noticing people preaching extreme diets or work out plans, but these are not necessary. Do what cultivates happiness and boosts energy levels. That could be your favorite walk, 5 mins of push ups, running 8 miles, gentle yoga, cross fit or whatever gets you moving. It all counts. Too often in today's society we are pushed to the extreme (gotta be the best!) but taking care of yourself should come from a place of love not fear. Love for you and what your body can do. Little steps everyday make big waves. Health is a state of being, not a state of restriction or deprivation. Repeat after me, I can do this! Each and every one of you are beautiful, truly. Grain-free, it seems to be everywhere these days. I must admit I was skeptical at first and not willing to give up my pasta! But I have drank the juice and never felt better. I have been doing the low carb and the high healthy fat thing for a couple months with many benefits. The positives range from a happy gut (no bloating here!) to sustained energy to deep sleep to improved endurance working out to a regulated appetite.

Endless studies are rolling out on the impact of gut health on overall wellness. From mental health to joint pain to fatigue, it all seems to connect to the gut.

Postpartum...

If you google or type it into Pinterest, the first thing that pops up is weight loss. For the reals?! Arg!! Like that is what we need to worry about after we pushed a small human out or had a c-section? This is ludicrous but what isn't these days 🙄

Let's chat about what a momma should be eating postpartum. Let me just say first month or so is pure survival mode from your first postpartum p**p to night sweats to sleep deprivation to breastfeeding to the "labor hangover" to emotions (like you want to kill your husband in his sleep). BUT also the most amazing snuggles ever! So if you are shoving cookie after cookie in your month, no judgment here...okay maybe that was just me 😬

It can take up to two years to recover from labor and pregnancy, so please be kind to yourself. Don't rush into things.

So what to eat? Eat smart nutrient dense foods and don't diet! Even if you are not breastfeeding because you need calories to recover. Your number one goal with nutrition is to build your blood back up after labor. The big hitters are protein, healthy fats and dark leafy greens. Add some much needed bone broth to warm your soul, the minerals and protein make it the perfect postpartum drink (along with coffee of course 😉). Stick to real foods but you don't have to be crazy about it!

Why do you think we hold back from speaking our truth? Why do we shy away from what hides deep inside us? Fear. Let me tell you a little something, people want to hear!

I have been struck by a change. Too long have I hid in the shadows, scared of being judged. No more. Because true greatness comes from the stuff that makes your insides flip, by putting yourself out there like never before. God knows I am not all knowing by any means but we all have a greatness in us clawing to come out. My sweet friend don't listen to fear, listen to hope.
