Bethany Mussell will head to Italy for the 2025 Special Olympics alongside two other Minnesota athletes. In 2022, Bethany competed in the Special Olympics in Orlando for swimming. Now, she’ll take to the slopes to compete in alpine skiing.

Bethany has been competitively skiing for about 15 years on the West Bloomington alpine skiing team after a friend taught her to ski. She spends her weekends training with her team at Hyland Hills in Bloomington. This past December, Bethany won a gold and two bronze medals at the 2024 Special Olympics Alpine State Ski Meet in Taylor Falls.

About 100 athletes from all over the world will gather in Turin, Italy, from March 8-15 for the Special Olympics World Winter Games. Athletes will compete in eight sports that include alpine skiing, cross country skiing, dance sport, figure skating, floorball, snowboarding, snowshoeing and short track speed skating. "I want to die with my boots on." Brad has a goal of staying healthy and working to the end; which in western terms is dying with your boots on. He loves his job with Dan's Cleaning Service just about as much as anything old western.
Brad was able to find independence along with self pride in his job as it has repetition; which he thrives in. Brad enjoys the time out of the house with the ride there and back as well as time spent working out in the community. He has made a personal goal to try to get to know another coworker and others as he becomes more comfortable.

Sarah has been working at the Mall Of America Nickelodeon Universe as a cashier. Sarah has been employed by Mall Of America for 13 years now. Sarah enjoys working there because she has had opportunities to move up in different areas. Sarah said she likes the hours she gets because she has most of her weekends off and then she can enjoy time with her family.
Sarah also likes that she can use the company gym and likes to work out before her shift.

Debra has worked at McDonalds for almost 20 years. Debra is always thankful for being able to still work even though she is at retirement age. Debra’s favorite slogan is “I like to have a jingle in my pockets.” Debra always tries her best and likes to do good work and takes pride in her position as lobby attendant. Debra said she likes her coworkers and feels blessed to have these people working with her. Debra said her goal is to continue to work as long as she stays healthy and can continue to keep up with her work.

"I have the perfect schedule." Kelli has had a goal of working a job with her dream hours and Michaels helped fulfill that. Kelli started out with evening shifts that did not allow her full potential to bloom, but after advocating for herself and having a manager willing to listen, she was moved to a different shift and became a top cashier with the help of understanding managers. Kelli has worked hard to understand her job and herself in the process including helping others to know that people learn differently.
