In the past month at Altman Fitness I’ve seen an uptick in people reaching out saying they are ready to include strength training into their routine because they feel they “should”.
I’m not a big fan of the word “should” because it seems to be the opposite “wanting to”. It feels very shame-y…. and we tend to rebel against things we feel are overwhelming and are being dictated to us.
The fact is when it comes to creating a strength training routine, so many people don’t know where to start, they fear it will hurt, and they will get injured.
If you keep those thoughts at the forefront of your mind- you will talk yourself out of starting and it will be impossible to stay consistent.
Instead, it’s important to stay focused on why you WANT to create a strong and healthy body and WHY it is crucial that you make daily deposits starting NOW.
When you think about your WHY for moving more daily, incorporating strength training, and focusing on filling your body with nutritious foods here is only a small list of the facts that can be a part of yourWHY and help you practicing wanting to do it:
• Movement & muscle increase your energy levels so you don’t feel like you need to take a nap every day and it helps you sleep better at night!
• Exercise improves your mental health and helps you work through anxiety and tough times
• Exercise & muscle mass boosts your immune system, and fights off illness quicker
• It helps you do the things you love longer because you have the strength and stamina to live life fully
• Muscle helps your body composition, bone health, and metabolism to manage your weight which helps keep your organs and cells healthy.
